A 9-year-old boy was shot four times and killed in his Chicago home’s backyard, making him the youngest victim the gun crime-ridden city has seen this year. Now four men responsible for his murder have been charged.
The shooting suspects, Derrick Allmon, 19, Jabari Williams, 22, Paris Denard, 19, and Michael Baker, 19, arrived at the boy’s home seeking out two older males that were part of a rival gang. As Allmon approached his intended targets on foot with a firearm in hand, he came across the little boy, Antonio Smith Jr, in the backyard of the residence, according to WGNTV.
Allmon believed the child was alerting the men inside of the assailant’s presence and “shot Antonio Smith multiple times, wounding him fatally,” Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Friday said. Adding, “As Allmon fled the scene, he discarded the murder weapon, the handgun, into a nearby sewer from which it was recovered.”
The boy was not affiliated with a gang, police said, who later charged the suspects with first-degree murder for the incident that occurred on August 20. Williams is also facing a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a Firearms Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
“Basically, when you shoot somebody four times or more, it’s an execution. Executing a 9-year-old kid, what the hell kind of a day is that?” Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church told WLSTV.
This is one of the latest examples of the rampant, out of control crimes that is occurring too frequently in a liberal city which is notoriously anti-gun. It’s proof that the policies are not just ineffective but recklessly dangerous.
