Is Your Facebook Use Funding Abortions?

Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg

A recent disclosure of a donation made by Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg, and his wife, pediatrician Priscilla Chan has the right cringing and the left celebrating, as they hope the information will make “right-wing Christians”stop using Facebook according to a comment on Liberals Unite.

Sources on both the right and the left of the issue report that Zuckerberg and wife have donated 18 million shares of Facebook valued at $992 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) in Mountain View, California in 2013, in addition to the 19 million Facebook shares donated by the couple to the same foundation in 2012.

According to its mission, vision, and values, “Silicon Valley Community Foundation advances innovative philanthropic solutions to challenging problems, engaging donors to make our region and world a better place for all.”  A visit to the SVCF website and you can see it describes itself as a “comprehensive center of philanthropy” that partners “with donors to strengthen the common good locally and throughout the world.”  The collaboration and partnership raising concern is that with Planned Parenthood.

SVCF’s 2012 Public Disclosure, available for online viewing, reports that they donated over $480,000 to Planned Parenthood in 2012 alone. The donations benefited Planned Parenthood’s in multiple cities, including San Antonio, TX; New York, NY; San Jose, CA; Jacksonville, FL; and Burlington, VT. Donations ranged in amount from $5,000 to $361,750.  These annual donations to Planned Parenthood, earmarked under broad terms such as “health,” “supporting families,” and “building community,” have almost doubled from 2011, when the SVCF report shows that SVCF gave close to $250,000.

Life News supports Zuckerberg’s right to donate his money as he wishes and praises his donations to charity, but hopes the money does not end up funding abortions.  In their report, they also urge SVCF to cease collaboration with Planned Parenthood:

Although Zuckerberg hasn’t publicly commented on the programs their gift will support, he did saytheir philanthropy would focus on children. Zuckerberg and his wife have every right to spend their money as they see fit. I’m grateful that they are donating to assist children in need. I only hope none of their funds will end up in the big pockets of Planned Parenthood.

As for Silicon Valley Community Foundation, they should cut ties with the taxpayer-funded abortion giant and funnel donations into the hundreds of Pregnancy Resource Centers, Crisis Pregnancy centers and homes for mothers. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation currently has assets of $2.9 billion, more than 1,600 philanthropic funds under management and over 60 local nonprofit partners. One can only dream of the impact those resources could have if directed into pro-life, pro-family, pro-women organizations. Perhaps someone should write Zuckerberg a letter.

Liberals Unite chastised Life News and its supporters, referring to them as the “anti-choice” crowd.  Apparently, the only choice supported by the left is the choice to murder unborn children, not choose how and where funds are spent.  The question on both sides remains, will those opposed to abortion boycott Facebook?  As for Mad World News, we will continue to use social media to inform and educate, but will not pay any funds to Facebook in the form of advertising and promoting, as we do not care to fund programs such as Planned Parenthood.

It is our hope that our readers will share this article to inform those that do put money in Facebook’s pocket, so informed decisions and choices can be made about what your money is used to support.  See, we’re not “anti-choice,” we’re anti-abortion.
