New Jersey Bar Takes Away What NFL Players Need The Most, Gives It To Veterans Instead

Football fans across the country have been shocked at the ongoing player protests of the American Flag. For two seasons, these athletes have knelt during the National Anthem as a sign of disrespect for their country. However, one New Jersey bar had enough. They decided to send a message to the NFL while showing support for our veterans, and the community responded.

Most of you will agree that it should be a crime for NFL players to kneel during the National Anthem. Regardless of their personal views, that is a time to honor and respect everything our country stands for. They have the freedom to play a game for a living, thanks to the United States, but they insult their country and the men and women who protect it, by kneeling like spoiled brats.

Many Americans are fed up with the behavior, so they are switching off games. One popular bar in New Jersey decided for Veterans Day weekend, they shouldn’t show any NFL games—out of respect for their local vets. Instead, they decided to host an event to honor our veterans. Many in the community came out in a show of support.

This Veterans Day weekend, a New Jersey bar did not show any NFL games and instead raised money for veterans.

On Sunday, Woody’s Roadside Tavern held a special concert featuring members of the New Jersey-based country group After the Reign, with a portion of the proceeds going to veterans charities, including the Green Beret Foundation and the Special Forces Charitable Trust…

Maltese said the idea came about after a regular customer, who is a veteran, asked them to turn off the football games on Sunday in honor of veterans.

“We thought about, and we thought it was a great idea,” Maltese said.

Knapp added that they wanted to give back to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms, so they organized the patriotic event. [Source: Fox News]

What’s great about what this bar did was the fact that it wasn’t a negative thing. They weren’t lashing out against the NFL, but showing the sport that they want to honor the true heroes in our society. We all love football and root for our home teams, but when it comes down to it — it’s our veterans that deserve the celebration.

“I think the idea originally came up because they felt disrespected by some of the NFL players,” said Rob Johnson, 52, one of the bar’s three owners. “We’re not trying to make a big political statement; we’re just here supporting our veterans and our military. The veterans are the ones who fight for us and give us our freedom of speech. It’s a beautiful thing we can both be on opposite sides of an argument thanks to them.” [Source: Middletown Patch]

The event was all about honoring the flag, our country, and the men and women who served and died to keep us free. While players in the NFL continue to dishonor the United States, this community gathered together to do the opposite.

Johnson said they had veterans drive from hours away just to be a part of it, and it was a phenomenal day. “Yesterday was the pinnacle of my life, to do something for the veterans first-hand in a local community,” Johnson said. [Source: Fox News]

One of the reasons this event was so important was how it impacted their local veterans. After serving in the Armed Forces, during times of conflict, our veterans often struggle to return to normal life. They feel like they are alone, with few people who understand what they are going through. This event brought many veterans together, who offered support and compassion to one another. It also showed them that they are not forgotten by their family, neighbors, and community.

What do you think about what this bar did? Do you think this should spread to other bars and restaurants around the country? Be sure to let us know.
