As the torture video of a disabled teen in Chicago went viral, people across the nation were left absolutely stunned and horrified. However, one reporter made things even worse when her sick reaction was caught on camera during her thug video segment — and it’s something that will make you cringe.
CNN reporter Sara Ganim is getting a bit of unwanted attention. During a segment featuring the infamous thug torture video, viewers were left horrified when the cameraman unexpectedly caught her responding to the video by doing on sickening thing — laughing.
If you’ve seen the torture video, it’s clear that it is no laughing matter. An autistic 18-year-old boy was tied up and beaten by four disgusting thugs; Jordan Hill, Tesfaye Cooper, Brittany Covington, and Tanishia Covington. The Chicago police have since charged them all with several crimes, including a hate crime, felony aggravated kidnapping, aggravated unlawful restraint, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
It should make your gut churn to see that Ganim’s response was to laugh as this video played. If the same was done to her, she wouldn’t find the situation to be very funny. It’s a shame that a reporter in our country can be so cruel.
However, it should be noted that some people believe there was a technical problem, and Ganim was just caught off guard and laughing at the on-air hiccup. Regardless, she’s meant to be a professional, and considering the segment she was reporting, she should have kept herself reserved until the cameras were off.
I don’t doubt she’s regretting her reaction. Aside from the lecture she undoubtedly received from her superiors at CNN, she’s likely been bombarded by her family, friends, and even strangers from across the country who were disgusted by how it appeared to viewers. I think it’s safe to say that she’s learned a valuable lesson; stay professional while on air or be prepared for the consequences.
