It’s been a while since Ted Cruz made big headlines but his recent announcement about his intentions to renew his fight against the enablers of Muslim terrorism is gaining a lot of attention. If he manages to change the rules of the game, like it’s never happened before, it will be a huge hit to Muslim politics and undoubtedly help to weaken Islam’s standing in America.
The Texas senator is once again going for the throat of the Muslim Brotherhood to make them accountable for helping to finance other terrorist groups. Many nations including Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates have already taken action against the terrorist umbrella group after learning their lessons the hard way and having their countries extensively harmed by Brotherhood operations.
The Muslim Brotherhood has masked itself as an Islamic political activism organization, but it’s consistently been connected to the support and funding of major terrorist groups around the world. In 2011, while Egypt was crumbling under the direct influence of the Brotherhood, then-FBI director Robert Mueller testified before a House Intelligence Committee that the Muslim Brotherhood has supported big name terrorists like Osama bin Laden, that the Brotherhood is in the U.S., and that they have been connected to terrorism both here and abroad.
In spite of the head of the FBI’s warnings and the mission statement of the Brotherhood itself, President Obama still refused to act in favor of the United States. The intent of the Brotherhood is clearly stated in its Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America:
“The process of settlement is a Civilization-Jihad process…The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers…”
Knowing that Donald Trump will have very little patience for terrorists meddling in American affairs and isn’t likely to protect them as Obama did, Senator Cruz renewed his fight to have the Muslim Brotherhood officially designated as a terrorist organization by introducing into the 115th Congress the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act on Tuesday. While many of the groups that fall under the Brotherhood’s umbrella are designated as terrorists, the main body of the Muslim Brotherhood has so far been able to escape that label and that needs to be rectified immediately.
“This bill recognizes the simple fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is a radical Islamic terrorist group,” Cruz initially stated about the bill. “For years, American presidents of both parties have correctly designated the Brotherhood’s various affiliates, such as Hamas and Ansar al-Sharia, as terrorist groups. They have designated individual Muslim Brotherhood leaders such as Shaykh Abd-al-Majd Al-Zindani, who was complicit in the 2000 attack on the USS Cole, and Sami Al-Hajj, who was captured on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in 2001 running money and weapons for al Qaida, as terrorists. Now we can reject the fantasy that their parent institution is a political entity that is somehow separate from these violent activities.”
Republican Florida Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart added, “This bill would impose tough sanctions on a hateful group that has spread violence and spawned extremist movements throughout the Middle East. This designation is long overdue, and I look forward to working with the incoming administration and the appropriate committees to ensure that this bill becomes law. We have an incoming president who appreciates the threat of terrorism and has vowed to defeat it. Designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization is an important step in defeating violent extremists.”
While Obama’s motivation for protecting the Muslim Brotherhood’s operations in America are at the very least suspicious, he’s on his way out and Donald Trump has a much more realistic and hard line view on the organization that promotes and supports worldwide terrorism. Thankfully, we’ve only got a little over a week until a patriotic American with our best interests in mind takes over the White House.
