After a big snowstorm dumped on La Salle, Colorado, a group of teens decided to use their snow day off school to shovel people’s driveways by hand. They made it through several houses, and despite it getting dark, they kept going. They were also done with one house when they heard something odd and couldn’t believe what was right inside the front door.
Coby Entihar, 14, his brother Jerry, and two friends Rebecca and Marcello set out for the day to earn some quick cash and also relieve others of the chilly task of hauling off all the heavy snow. They didn’t realize what they were about to run into at the end of their hard work when they decided to take on one last house. As soon as they knocked on the door to offer their services, they learned that they were in for far more than they bargained for.
“My brother told me go up to the door. I knocked on the door and I heard somebody yelling,” Coby explained to KUSA. “I felt kind of in a worthless situation. Like I was worthless because I couldn’t get into his house to help him.”
The guy inside wasn’t just in need of his sidewalk being shoveled, he needed an angel to save his life and it came in the form of these four unsuspecting teens. The elderly man had been struggling on the floor for several days after falling and being unable to get up.
“You could clearly see he was in pain,” Zach Hill of the LaSalle Fire Department said. “This gentleman had been there for, we’re not sure how long, and we don’t know how long he would’ve been there had they not knocked on the door so they had a huge part in getting him help.”
After alerting his friends to the find, Rebecca called 911 and got crews there to save this man from the floor. “Something told me that he needed me and he needed us,” Coby added, and his instincts couldn’t have been more correct.
With all of the snow outside, nobody was around to hear him despite how hard he tried to get anyone’s attention. It was only by the grace of these kids who decided to work for extra cash and take on one last house, that he was rescued when he may not have been before it was too late.
