When police in Ohio recently received a report regarding a domestic violence incident, they responded to what would turn out to be far from a routine call. To say they were met by a looney is putting it mildly. In fact, while challenging the officers, the crazed man barricaded himself in a screened-in porch, then, as if to commit suicide by cop, officers watched him swing a tomahawk in the air — and that’s about the time he got a brutal reality check.
Ohio’s Colerain Township police were called to the 11900 block of Pippin Road at 2:56 p.m. for a domestic dispute where they found Sean Arbuckle, 52, barricading himself on the porch. When cops arrived, Arbuckle first verbally challenged the officers before stripping naked, but things were only going to get worse.
He began swinging a tomahawk, insisting that no one would be leaving alive, and he asked officers several times to shoot him. Now, the video from the officer’s body cam has been released and surfaced online, where shocked viewers can watch it all play out as the naked man takes on the police — but things certainly don’t go as he had hoped.
According to Cincinnati.com and as seen in the video, Arbuckle began chanting and closing windows and doors, barricading one with a small couch. He continued to point the tomahawk and a bayonet at himself and the officers, demanding that the police kill him or he would kill them. Colerain Township police called for back up before approaching the maniac.
In the blink of an eye, Arbuckle moved the couch that was barricading him on the porch and ran towards police with his weapon. Breitbart reported that Arbuckle was tased and hit with about six pepper ball rounds, dropping him to the ground and causing him to release the tomahawk, but he was still clutching the bayonet. He was ordered to drop the knife but instead tried to stand up, swinging the blade at two officers, so officers were forced to hit him with the taser again to force him to drop his weapon.
Most people do not try to challenge the police with such odd weapons, while naked, so we have to believe Arbuckle is either severely mentally unstable or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Given the strange circumstances, the Colerain Township police chief was proud of how his officers handled the situations.
“You can see how fast that situation evolved and how dangerous it was for them, so to see them react the way that they did, to do that so calmly, that makes you very proud as a chief. You know you hired the right people and trained them the correct way and you can trust them to do the right thing,” he said. “There are a number of places in the video where they would have been justified in using deadly force, but they didn’t and we have a good outcome. We hope he can get some help.” [Source: Cincinnati.com]
After being taken into custody naked, Arbuckle was taken to the hospital by the Colerain Township Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Arbuckle has been charged with three counts of felonious assault with a bond set at $110,000.
We believe he will need a mental evaluation or a drug test to explain his bizarre behavior that day. Mentally stable people don’t usually go around swinging large knives at people, let alone at law enforcement. It just goes to show the literally crazy things — and people — our men and women in blue are forced to deal with every day. Kudos to them for a job well done.
