Looking innocent enough, a woman who police have dubbed “Barbie girl” was recently arrested. Unfortunately for her, it seems they discovered what she was quietly doing in stranger’s homes – and it was all part of an elaborate plan.
Georgia Annie Wawman, a 26-year-old mother of one originally from Britain, was arrested in Argentina after police discovered her to be a “key player” within a 9-person gang. Making many believe that she was actually the leader, police explain, “When we were arresting them, she [Wawman] screamed to the others, ‘Beware of what they are going to say.’”
As it turns out, upscale homes and businesses – mainly country clubs – were being targeted by a group of thieves who were wreaking havoc in the Campaña, Escobar, and Zarate areas. Come to find out, it was Wawman’s gang and they weren’t taking part in your average robberies.
According to reports, targets were scouted in advance before the group made their move. Some of them even dressed up as police officers during the thefts to avoid suspicion. After waiting for their victims to fall asleep, the group would go in at night, under the cover of darkness, and rob them blind.
According to Mail Online, “As well as money, police say the gang snatched laptops, tablets and cameras during the robberies, along with [jewelry] and watches.”
In an attempt to avoid being identified, the group wore latex gloves so that they didn’t leave any fingerprints behind. Wawman has since been released from police custody in order to care for her 2-year-old son, but she is still under investigation.
They always say never to judge a book by its cover, and Ms. Wawman certainly seems to be the perfect example of why you never should. Personally, I have no sympathy for anyone who takes what isn’t theirs, especially from people who worked hard to get what they have. If you want what someone else has, try earning it the same way that they did.
