An 18-year-old Ohio cheerleader has been hailed as a “good girl” by those who know her, but what cops found buried in her backyard proves she’s the furthest thing from that description. She was jailed after police discovered the sick thing she had tried to hide.
Brooke Skylar Richardson has been charged with reckless homicide after the remains of her newborn baby were found in her backyard. Evidence showed the child “was born alive and was not a stillborn baby,” according to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell. “Law enforcement is continuing to treat this as an ongoing investigation,” said Fornshell.
The baby’s remains were discovered last week in the backyard of Richardson’s Carlisle, Ohio, home after authorities received a tip from a doctor’s office. According to Lieutenant John Faine of the Warren’s County Sheriff’s Office, the remains appeared to be buried more than two months before their discovery.
The prosecutor’s office is reportedly still waiting on the coroner to determine the baby’s official cause of death, but Richardson pleaded not guilty to the charges against her on Friday. According to FOX 5, she was bonded out of the Warren County Jail. Her preliminary hearing date was set for August 1.
Her attorney, Charles Rittgers, told reporters on Friday that Richardson is a “good student” who graduated high school recently, where she was a member of the school’s cheerleading squad. [Source: Fox News]
“She didn’t drink. She wasn’t a partier or smoker,” Attorney Rittgers said. “By all measures, a very good girl who helped children… She’s, by all means, a very good person.”
There is perhaps no instinct stronger than that of a mother to protect her baby, but Brooke Richardson was apparently devoid of this most fundamental human characteristic. She may have been a “good student,” but what she did to her own child also makes her a bonafide sociopath. In fact, it is downright chilling to hear her attorney refer to her as a “good person,” knowing full well that she buried her newborn baby in her backyard.
There is still much which remains to be seen surrounding the death of Richardson’s child, but it is already reminiscent of the case of Casey Anthony. Hopefully, Richardson is brought to justice, unlike Anthony, who was also a pretty, young mother.
Unfortunately, this is another product of the liberal narrative, where the life of a child is devalued and a mother has the right to kill her baby as long as it still resides in her body. When respect for life is lost, moral lines that should be obvious become blurred. Sadly, had she killed her child just hours before, while still in her womb, this wouldn’t even be a case. It would be her “right.” It’s really no wonder that our youth have confused what’s right and wrong when our laws have too.
