The Democratic Party mantra is never let facts get in the way when you want to push a narrative. It is a mantra that those at the top of the party – and their puppets in the mainstream media – live by. But, sometimes it is beyond egregious and forces one to call out the other.
On Thursday, New York Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand spoke to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, and although she was involved in the voting, she did not appear to be aware of what happened when Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch was voted on in the Senate.
“He didn’t get a vote from one Democrat. And, I believe now that we’ve seen what Gorsuch has done in the court, he’s already undermined women’s rights, already union rights, already civil rights in this country, I don’t think people are going to trust that President Trump isn’t going to do what he said he was going to do,” Sen. Gillibrand told Cuomo.
The CNN anchor interrupted her and attempted to correct her. “Are you right that he didn’t get one vote? Didn’t he get three?” Cuomo asked.
“[The Democrats] stood strong and they passed it with Republican votes,” Gillibrand declared. The senator remained defiant and oblivious to the facts until Cuomo hinted at her again that she was incorrect.
Sen. Gillibrand, who many believe is planning to run against President Donald Trump in 2020, gave in when she started to figure out that she was incorrect. “You might be right, Chris, but I believe this Democratic caucus will stand together. You’re really deciding whether or not you value women and you want them to have basic civil rights and civil liberties,” she said.
Three Democratic senators – Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp, and Joe Donnelly – voted for Neil Gorsuch. The three senators are in states that voted for President Trump and are vulnerable in the 2018 midterm elections.
But, the real reason she was on the show was not to show her lack of knowledge on the votes in the Senate. She was on the show to move to the far left and call for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be abolished.
“I believe that it has become a deportation force. And I think you should separate out the criminal justice from the immigration issues. And I think you should reimagine ICE under a new agency with a very different mission and take those two missions out. So we believe that we should protect families that need our help and that is not what ICE is doing today. And that’s why I believe you should get rid of it, start over, reimagine it and build something that actually works,” she told Cuomo.
Her comments on the organization came hours after she and other Democrat senators participated in a protest of ICE. There were 575 people arrested at that same protest. Among them were Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who recently gave birth and who brought her baby with her as a prop.
“I wanted to show my support for the folks here today,” she told NBC News. “I could only imagine what it would be like to have my daughter — my breastfeeding child — ripped away from me the way some of these other moms’ babies have been.”
It is shameful that the senator thought that the best place for her newborn baby, who was born in April, was at a protest. And, it is not only shameful but ignorant of any senator, especially one from New York like Sen. Gillibrand, to call for an end to ICE, an agency that was created to protect the United States after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
But, expecting to hear common sense from a Democrat is like waiting for snow in the summer in Arizona. They never allow facts or reason to get in the way of their narrative.
