Michaella Surat, a 22-year-old, 115-pound sorority girl at Colorado State University, thought she could get away with shoulder-checking bouncers. After hitting a cop, she learned an immediate brutal lesson, and now, life is continuing to spiral downhill for her.

The Denver Channel reports that Surat was subdued after physically obstructing and striking an officer outside of the Bondi Beach Bar in Fort Collins, causing a physical response from the officer. Police say that the procedure was “standard arrest control.”

Naturally, opinions are mixed on the incident. While some say that Surat is a brat and that she got what she deserved, others say that the cop used too much force.

Today, the sorority girl told ABCNews that the incident continues to cause trauma in her life.

Speaking on camera, Surat said tearfully that it felt like “all my bones were shattering in my face…and I was so humiliated and everyone was watching me.”

“I can’t go to school without worrying someone’s going to assault me, I’m getting death threats,” the student said.

Surat says that she was both physically and emotionally hurt by the officer’s actions, but she neglects to mention that it was a result of her own bad choices. Her family claims that she suffered bruises, a concussion, and a chin contusion.

Fort Collins Police Chief John Hutto says that the incident is being fully investigated. He also believes that the video does not tell the entire story.

“As with most events of this type, the short, publicly-available video does not have the context or content of the full event,” Hutto said in a statement. “Additionally, rarely in use of force situations is there agreement from all the parties involved as to the appropriateness, efficacy, or necessity of its use. These questions are only answered through the analysis of all the evidence after the fact.”

Take a look at her interview, below:

Unfortunately, it appears that this case may be headed to court, pending an investigation. Surat’s lawyer says that he is “extremely appalled” and that the officer “was very aggressive.”

The truth is, college brats like Michaella Surat do not claim responsibility for their actions, and sometimes things boomerang on them. This entire affair could have been avoided if Surat had simply shown respect for the officer involved. The officer was clearly bigger than the girl, and unfortunately, a jury in a courtroom may hold that against him.

Hopefully, the officer will not find himself in hot water and can continue to do his job. And, what of Michaella Surat? Something tells me that she has learned her lesson and will now show officers some respect without forcing her frame in their way. Unfortunately, that bit of knowledge can all be undone if a court decides to give in to the girl who brought these tough consequences on herself.
