On Monday, former Florida Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown was sentenced to five years in prison and three years probation for mail, wire, and tax fraud involving a sham charity. Her seven-word excuse for committing the crimes was absolutely priceless.

Corrine Brown was involved with a charity which claimed to be gathering money to offer scholarships to poor students, but the funds were actually used to line her own pockets and those of her associates so that they might all partake in a lifestyle beyond their individual means.

Brown used the money from her fake charity to throw lavish parties and go on luxury trips. She also lied about all of this on her tax returns. The case against her was quite damning, especially after her associates testified against her in exchange for plea deals.

Earlier this year, One Door President Carla Wiley pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud after it was determined that she had deposited $800,000 into the foundation’s account over four years. Over that time, federal prosecutors say it gave one scholarship for $1,000 and that Wiley transferred herself tens of thousands of dollars.

Brown tried to argue that she was unaware of what went on and that it was Simmons’ fault, but she was convicted on 18 of 22 charges, according to America News Hub.

“So if there’s really nothing here, why would you be charged?” asked one reporter. Brown blamed the corruption charges against her on racism, saying, “I’m a black woman with a mouth.”

So, to sum this all up for you, Corrine Brown used minority children as a ploy to garner donations, knowing full-well that they would never see a dime of the hundreds of thousands of dollars which were given to her. Then, when she got caught, she immediately blamed racism. I think her race card is getting a little worn out at this point.

Am I the only one having a hard time seeing how we’re the racist ones after it was Corrine Brown who exploited poor minority children for her own gain?

This is precisely the reason that there is so much racial division in our country at this moment in time. Not Donald Trump, not “racist” white police officers. We’re divided because people like Corrine Brown use race as an excuse for everything.

How are we supposed to look past the color of each other’s skin when it’s all people like Corrine Brown will talk about? How are we supposed to make judgments based on the content of one’s character when people like Corrine Brown want a free pass on their crimes simply because they’re a minority?

Democrats can’t have their cake and eat it, too. At some point, they will have to decide which is more important: their habit of race-baiting, or a society which isn’t plagued by racial division. The choice would seem a simple one, although I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for those on the left to make the right decision if I were you. Over the years they have proven to have a strong aversion to common sense and to doing the right thing.
