The hearings of President Donald Trump’s SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh were met with interruptions and screams from protesters and Senate Democrats on Tuesday, with multiple people being removed from the hearing by police before all was said and done. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) finally lost it on the deranged Democrats obstructing Kavanaugh, dropping a bomb about Hillary Clinton that shocked them all.
According to The Daily Caller, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) believes Democrats who obstructed the Brett Kavanaugh hearing on Tuesday have a single motivation: to avenge Hillary Clinton’s election loss. In an impassioned speech before the Judiciary Committee, Cruz laid bare the motivations behind Democrats’ protest of the hearings.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said that congressional Democrats want to delay the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh because they’re attempting to “re-litigate” the 2016 presidential election. A number of Democratic senators quickly interrupted Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley’s opening statement at Tuesday’s confirmation hearing.
They objected to just receiving a batch of 42,000 documents relating to Kavanaugh’s work with past administrations, and called for other withheld documents to be released. Democrats are putting a lot of energy into receiving more documents, Cruz said, because their demands will be “impossible to meet.” He said that seeking more past information on Kavanaugh is simply an attempt to “distract and delay” his confirmation. “So what is this fight about?” Cruz asked. “If it’s not about documents or Judge Kavanaugh’s credentials or judicial record, what is this fight about? I believe this fight is nothing more and nothing less than an attempt by colleagues to relitigate the 2016 presidential election.”
“Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were both clear about what kind of justices and judges they would appoint,” Cruz said. “Secretary Clinton’s answer was clear. She wanted a justice who would be a liberal progressive willing to rewrite the Constitution. Willing to impose liberal policy agendas that she could not get through the democratic process and the Congress of the United States would not adopt – that she hoped five unelected lawyers would force on the American people. That’s what Hillary Clinton promised for her nominees.”
“The American people made a choice that night,” Cruz went on. “My Democratic colleagues are not happy with the choice the American people made, but as President Obama said, elections have consequences.”
“The democratic obstruction is all about trying to reverse the election,” Cruz added. “Our colleagues want justices who will rubber stamp efforts like the Obama administration’s efforts litigating against the Little Sisters of the Poor. Litigating against Catholic nuns trying to force them to a pay for abortion-inducing drugs and others. That is a radical and extreme proposition.”
“We know that every Democratic member of this committee is going to vote ‘no,'” Cruz said. “We don’t have to speculate. They publicly announced they are voting ‘no.’ Doesn’t depend on what they read in documents and what Judge Kavanaugh says in this hearing.”
He concluded, “It is about Democratic Senators trying to relitigate the 2016 election and just as importantly, working to begin litigating the 2020 presidential election. We had an opportunity for the American people to speak and they did. They voted in 2016 and they wanted judges and justices who will be faithful to the Constitution.”
Indeed, many conservatives believed that the single most important reason to elect Donald Trump in 2016 was so that Hillary Clinton would not have the opportunity to stack the Supreme Court with liberal activist judges who would institute a progressive agenda in America for years to come.
Likewise, Democrats were horrified at the prospect that, should Trump win, he would be able to appoint at least two — maybe even three — justices to the Supreme Court who would uphold the values our great nation was founded upon.
Clearly, the Democrats are still having trouble coming to terms with the fact that Hillary did not win the election, and thus, Trump has the opportunity to appoint judges who will uphold the Constitution, not systematically burn it to the ground with their every decision.
