In California, a family had been fast asleep when a father heard his daughter begin to cry and beg for his help. He sprung out of bed and barely made it into the hallway when he saw the pool table and took immediate action.

Up until about midnight, Art Corrall’s house had been completely quiet. Everyone was in their beds, where they were supposed to be, including his wife, son, his precious daughter, and a 5-month-old baby, KTLA reported. Corrall had made sure the house was locked up tight before going to bed that night, so when his daughter first heard strange noises, she knew something wasn’t right.

She began to beg for her father’s help, and that was all this protective dad needed to hear when he grabbed his gun and went to investigate what was going on. After taking a few steps down the hall toward his daughter’s room, he looked over at their pool table and saw Jose Andres Alfaro Chavez on the floor, hiding in the dark.

Corrall fired three shots into the suspected intruder, who had made forced entry into the home, before calling the police to report the break-in. The alleged burglar managed to survive the shots, at least for now, as he was transported to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery. His current condition is unknown, but Chavez had previously been warned.

Elizabeth Martin, who is Corrall’s neighbor in their Ontario suburb, told ABC 7 that Chavez has been known to prowl their streets, breaking into several homes in the area. She told him that if he continues, he was likely to be shot. Sure enough, Corrall was the guy to do it. He wasn’t taking any chances when he saw him, stating he was just using his right to bear arms to protect his family and property. However, some don’t see it that way.

“What would have happened if I didn’t? We would have had a big ol’ pillow fight?” the brave dad said about shooting the stranger who crept into his house uninvited. “I’m a hardworking guy. Me and my wife work for what we got here, and our kids and stuff. I just believe that if we don’t have rights to bear arms, how else am I going to defend my family?”

Corrall explained that he had no way of knowing if the accused intruder was on drugs, was armed, or would try to harm the girls. He preferred to be safe, rather than sorry, and he did what he thought he had to do. Chavez already broke the law and accepted the risk of what could happen to him, when he entered into a family’s home with bad intentions. Now, Corrall could potentially face charges, but as of now, no arrests have been made, including of Chavez.

This father did exactly what he should have, giving this guy what he had coming. Chavez was lucky he had made it in and out of so many houses before without being shot. He had gotten away with it so many times before, so he continued to victimize people. Now, if he makes it out of the hospital, he’ll think twice before breaking into a house where he has no business being.

The only victims are those who don’t fight back. Thanks to this protective father, not a single person in his family was harmed that night, and he got to keep all of his belongings that he worked so hard to acquire.
