Last week, a video emerged of Malia Obama passionately and very publicly kissing a mystery man at a Harvard tailgate party. The footage wasn’t all that surprising, as many simply chocked it up to a young girl doing what college students do. However, some pretty shocking details have since emerged about Malia’s alleged “boyfriend,” and they’ve left parents Barack and Michelle furious.
According to TMZ, “Malia Obama’s gonna remember her first Harvard-Yale football game — and so is the guy she made out with during the tailgate party. Barack and Michelle’s oldest was pregaming with friends Saturday outside the Yale Bowl in New Haven, CT, and wound up kissing a mystery guy who seemed to be pulling for Harvard, too … based on his crimson tee.”
The boy who was seen on video making out with Malia Obama has been identified as Rory Farquharson, a British 19-year-old who is also attending Harvard. It appears that he is cut from the same cloth as the former first daughter, having had attended some of the priciest schools in his home country.
Farquharson is the son of an investment banker and has self-described as an “over-confident public school boy.” In Britain, what Americans consider to be expensive private schools are called public schools, with his education taking place at the Rugby School, with tuition approximating £32,000 per year or $42,600 American. He even has a link to the royal family, as his second cousin was once the Queen of England’s Assistant Master of the Household at Buckingham Palace. His mother is an accountant. However, while Malia and Rory may have both been treated to expensive schooling, it appears that their similarities stop there. Apparently, they aren’t exactly on the same page where politics are concerned. It has been revealed that Rory follows President Donald Trump on Twitter, but not Barack Obama.
In an age where social media is central to the lives of most people and the place where many get their news, this is of particular significance. At the very least, it’ll make for awkward dinner conversation if Malia ever decides to introduce her main squeeze to her father.
His father is the chief executive and director of an investment fund management group in London although it’s unclear whether the teen will follow in his father’s career footsteps.
Over the summer, he interned in Northern Ireland with the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building; something that could impress Malia’s father, Barack Obama.
With all the attention, people have noticed one funny thing: Rory currently follows Donald Trump on Twitter, but not Barack Obama. [Source: Yahoo! Sports]
They say that opposites attract, and that certainly appears to be true in the case of Malia and Rory. She’s American, he’s British. She’s the daughter of a former president, and he seems to prefer her father’s arch nemesis.
There’s a lot of sense in following Donald Trump on Twitter, but not Barack Obama. For starters, Obama uses his Twitter account for little more than pandering to a public that no longer cares what he has to say, as he no longer holds any power.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, is the leader of the free world. Moreover, it has become seemingly impossible to get an unbiased story out of the mainstream media, thus, Trump is forced to send out tweets informing the public of what is really going on in his administration. Perhaps Malia Obama ought to take a lesson from her new boyfriend.
