Weeks Before Airing On FOX, “Last Man Standing” Cast Releases Surprising Message

It has been one year since ABC made the shocking decision to cancel actor and comedian Tim Allen’s hit show, “Last Man Standing,” despite the sitcom’s impressive ratings. Now, just weeks before the show’s premiere on FOX, the cast has released a surprising message.

It’s no secret that proudly proclaiming your support for conservative values or Republican politicians can cost you your career in Hollywood. However, what ABC did in the wake of actor Tim Allen’s support for President Donald Trump going viral was quite shocking.

Allen, who describes himself as a fiscal conservative, infamously spoke out against Hollywood liberals who are notorious for bullying Trump supporters. Unfortunately, he did not walk away unscathed after taking that stance. ABC confirmed in May 2017 that “Last Man Standing,” which stars Allen as the politically conservative and Christian character Mike Baxter, was being canceled despite showing strong ratings.

Variety reported at the time, “Last Man Standing was ahead of the curve in the cultural sense as Allen played a conservative-minded patriarch who runs a sporting goods store and opines about the modern world, including political topics such as Obamacare and environmental policy.”

It was considered the perfect sitcom for the Trump era, hitting ratings highs in its sixth season. But that didn’t save Last Man Standing from a cancellation today.

ABC has opted not to renew the longtime Friday 8 PM anchor for Season 7 despite the fact that the blue-collar sitcom was ABC’s second most watched comedy this season with 8.1 million viewers in Live +7, only behind flagship Modern Family (8.7 million). Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last year, Allen seemed to foreshadow his own demise, saying, “I’m not kidding. You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes.” He continued, “This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, ‘You know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘Well, I might have a problem with that.’ I’m a comedian, I like going [off] on both sides.”

Fans of Allen’s show were quick to express their contempt over the cancellation of “Last Man Standing,” and likewise, they were ecstatic when FOX announced that it was bringing the hilarious sitcom back to television.

With only a few more weeks to go before the official return of the show to network television, Allen and the rest of the cast released a video thanking their fans for their undying support. After all, it was that unprecedented support which was ultimately responsible for bringing “Last Man Standing” back to tv.

The evolution of “Last Man Standing” is certainly a testament to the power conservatives have when they rally together in a grassroots effort to support their cause. In this case, a top-rated show was canceled just because liberal network executives didn’t like its conservative message, and they didn’t want its lead actor having such a large platform to promote his own conservative beliefs.

But, thanks to massive backlash aimed at ABC and an outpouring of support for “Last Man Standing,” the show has been brought back by another network — one which doesn’t take issue with presenting different beliefs and values. That is all thanks to conservative fans who don’t take kindly to having their voice quashed simply because it differs from the preferred agenda in Hollywood.
