Figure skater Adam Rippon, who will compete in the Winter Olympics for Team USA, has been hailed a “hero” for refusing to meet Vice President Mike Pence. However, he just got the smirk wiped off of his disrespectful face. You’re going to love this!
Openly gay Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon is being hailed a hero for refusing to meet with Vice President Mike Pence, whom he accused of “funding gay conversion therapy.”
“You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy? I’m not buying it,” Rippon told reporters when Pence was announced as the Trump administrations choice for top Olympic delegate.
USA Today called the interaction a “bizarre battle” and implied that Pence is locked in a feud with the Olympic athlete, even though it seems it’s Rippon who would prefer to stand by an incorrect statement rather than sit down with the high profile official whom he’s wrongly accused.
“The Vice President is proud to lead the U.S. delegation to the Olympics and support America’s incredible athletes,” said Pence’s office. “This accusation is totally false and has no basis in fact. Despite these misinformed claims, the vice president will be enthusiastically supporting all the U.S. athletes competing next month in Pyeongchang.”
Even though Rippon was spreading blatant lies about Pence, always the bigger person, the vice president reached out to him personally in an attempt to smooth things over and find some common ground. However, Rippon refused.
The figure skater was then left with egg on his face after the truth surfaced, revealing that Pence had never actually supported gay conversion therapy. Even Snopes, the left-leaning fact-checking website, admitted that Rippon’s claims were nothing more than salacious rumors.
Rippon’s claims are, apparently, based on a rumor that circulated during the 2016 presidential campaign that, while running for Congress, Pence supported — and even suggested funding — “gay conversion therapy,” a strange idea from Evangelical circles in the early 2000s that claimed homosexuality could be “cured” by inpatient psychological treatment, and sometimes included electroshock therapy.
But even Snopes admits that Pence’s website doesn’t make any claims of conversion therapy efficacy, nor does it say the vice president supports anything remotely in line with electroshock therapy. [Source: Daily Wire]
And herein lies one of the biggest hypocrisies of the progressive movement. The left fancies itself the party of “tolerance” and “acceptance,” yet it only tolerates and accepts people who share the same agenda. Adam Rippon’s refusal to meet Mike Pence is a prime example.
Mike Pence believes the Bible’s teaching that homosexuality is a sin. He does not personally agree with the gay lifestyle. And because of this, Rippon cannot even stand to be in the same room with him. By this standard, how can Rippon even live his life? There are Christians all over who do not condone homosexuality. It’s not like Rippon can surround himself with only gays and their advocates 24/7.
But, more importantly, there are many people who do not agree with Mike Pence’s lifestyle choices, either. For example, the vice president was mercilessly mocked last year when the press learned that he never dines alone with a woman other than his wife, and he never attends functions where alcohol is served without Karen by his side.
These are two thoughtful ways that Pence protects his marriage and his reputation. With all of the women claiming sexual harassment these days, it is only prudent for men in powerful positions to make sure they do not place themselves in compromising positions, or positions where they could be taken advantage of.
However, when the media got wind of Pence’s rule, you would have thought they had caught him with a dead body in the trunk of his care. The blowback was that bad.
Still, Pence did not refuse an audience with any of the people who called him a “prude” or claimed that he was some sort of pervert who couldn’t be trusted to keep his hands to himself. They might have disagreed with his lifestyle choice, but he didn’t shun any of them. He let them have their opinion and went on living his life.
So, why can’t the left do the same? Why can’t Adam Rippon meet with Mike Pence and then go home to his boyfriend? Why can’t the focus of the Olympics this year be sport instead of ideology? The answer, of course, is because there’s no one pettier than a liberal. They can’t even stand to be in the same room with someone who they disagree with. That’s pretty darn pathetic.
