The governor of California, Jerry Brown, has just announced a new policy that will surely frustrate millions of citizens in his state and probably around the country as its effects will undoubtedly reach far beyond the liberal state. This new policy was sparked by something he saw in China, the largest Communist country in the modern world, and his sights are set on something we use every day.
California has never been the poster child of sensibility and restraint. The state is the leader in radical, leftist ideas and bankrupt policies. As its current legislative body continues to resist President Donald Trump on almost every issue, they continue to suffer from significant infrastructure problems. Road, bridges, and dams are crumbling. Where is the money going? To help pay for illegal immigrants’ stay.
It’s clear that their governor Jerry Brown will do everything in his power to prove he is the Anti-Trump. Even if that means pushing insane liberal policies that will hurt his people beyond repair. His latest plan will most certainly frustrate California residents, harm numerous industries, and send shock waves across the nation, hurting many more.
According to Breitbart, the governor wants to implement a state-wide ban of combustion engine cars. That’s right, the technology that makes the vast majority of automobiles function that we use every day. Those will be outlawed in the Communist State of California. Where did he get this idea? After a trip to China, of course.

California prides itself on being “green.” But more often than not, their environmental laws make life far more difficult for citizens, with little evidence it is helping the earth. This new ban would make it illegal for Californians to buy traditional, fossil-fuel burning cars, forcing them to buy far more expensive electric or hybrid cars. These cars do exist, but they are not practical enough for everyone to own.
Governor Jerry Brown has expressed an interest in barring the sale of vehicles powered by internal-combustion engines, Mary Nichols, chairman of the California Air Resources Board, said in an interview Friday at Bloomberg headquarters in New York. The earliest such a ban is at least a decade away, she said…
“To reach the ambitious levels of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, we have to pretty much replace all combustion with some form of renewable energy by 2040 or 2050,” Nichols said. “We’re looking at that as a method of moving this discussion forward.” [Source: Bloomberg]
A decade? Do they really think they can force everyone in California — the largest state in the country — to switch over to alternative cars in such a short span of time? Imagine the crisis this kind of ban would create. Gas station owners would be out of business. Car dealers would be forced to sell only hybrids and electric cars. Industries that rely on trucks and other vehicles would incur massive expenses and would most likely be driven to bankruptcy.
All because Jerry wanted to lower emissions by a fraction of a percent.
The fact that he got this idea from the biggest Communist nation in the world — a nation that denies its people basic rights — is really telling. Usually, liberals like to pretend they aren’t Communist hacks. This time, Jerry is all but bragging about it.
This kind of measure is the very embodiment of government control and overreach. Instead of allowing the free market to drive sales of alternative-fueled cars, the state of California will artificially force the issue. This can wreak havoc on not only California’s economy but the rest of the country.
Already certain bans on products in California have affected the rest of the country. In order for companies to be compliant with California standards, they have to change their products — unless they want to lose business. That affects everything they make and sell throughout the country. California banned certain chemicals in the manufacturing of furniture and other objects. That forced companies to change the way they made their products, driving the prices up — for everyone.
What would be the fallout if the largest state (in population) banned combustible engine cars? It would undoubtedly force car makers to prioritize expensive, impractical alternative fuel cars. That would eventually force car buyers in other states to have fewer options — at higher prices.
And, considering car makers sell their products overseas, it could affect car buyers everywhere.
Instituting such a policy in California would affect the entire car industry globally, due to the massive size of California’s car market. Over 2 million new passenger vehicles were sold and registered in the nation’s most populous state last year — more than the entire nations of Spain, France and Italy. (Source: Breitbart)
As it stands now, it is only words spoken by an irresponsible and reckless governor. While California does have certain powers to regulate their environmental rules, the Trump administration can block such a drastic measure. And, you have to consider what car manufacturers might say about it, especially through their lobbyist. But, it is yet another example of how California liberals are completely out of touch with the rest of the country.
