Now, the Democrats should be in panic mode, having been exposed by the firebrand Republican.
According to The Daily Caller, Senator Lindsey Graham revealed one offer the GOP made to Democrats that would end the government shutdown and predicted exactly how things would play out during his appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” Wednesday night.
“Compromise is giving the president the $5 billion we need for wall/border security as a down payment to securing the border,” Graham said. “The DACA population — about 700,000 — give them work permits — three-year work permits — so they don’t have to worry about getting deported any time soon.”
“The TPS people came here from war-torn areas hurricanes and floods, renew their legal status, no pathway to citizenship, and call it a day,” he added. “It’s called compromise. The president said let’s make a deal. The Democratic response is basically ‘go to hell.'”
“This is a battle, to me, worth having, and I know it’s inconvenient,” Hannity responded. “By the way, I support all those furloughed employees. I don’t want them caught in the political crossfire. They deserve their back pay.”
“Let me tell you how our government works,” said Graham. “Any bill passed from the House has to come to the Senate and has to get 60 votes and for it to be signed into law the president has to sign it. He is not going to sign a bill that doesn’t have money for the wall.”
“I will tell you exactly how this is going to end,” he continued. “The president is going to challenge the Democrats to compromise. If they continue to say no, they will pay a price with the American people. Most Americans want to do two things. They want to secure our border and they want to be reasonable to the people like the DACA population.“
Congressional leaders met at the White House on Wednesday for the first time in the new year to discuss the shutdown. But according to a White House official, the Democrats did not even bother listening to the deals the GOP had come up with.
Democratic lawmakers brought a border security briefing at the White House to a screeching halt Wednesday, refusing to even listen to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, a White House official tells The Daily Caller.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy echoed this version of events to reporters outside the White House immediately after the briefing, saying, “Once the secretary started, Schumer interrupted her and didn’t want to hear it.”
Republican and Democratic lawmakers after the meeting indicated little progress was made toward ending the partial government shutdown and that they agreed to reconvene Friday. The White House official says there was a consensus in the room that negotiations would be put on hold until Pelosi officially assumed her expected role of Speaker.
The White House official told TheDC that both Pelosi and Schumer refused to hear out Nielsen’s briefing and instead advocated for two solutions to end the government shutdown. “Democrats in the room either don’t care that there is a humanitarian crisis on the border or just prefer ignorance. It was incredibly disheartening that they don’t want to know the facts when making policy,” stated DHS spokeswoman Katie Waldman.
But the Democrats do know the facts. They know that by keeping our border open, we are allowing dangerous criminals and gangs to enter the country. They know some of these people will go on to harm American citizens. They know that we spend far more than $5 billion each year to support illegal immigrants who come here and have babies without the means to support them. They know all of this.
It is overwhelmingly clear that we need the wall. The only reason the Democrats are putting up such a fight now is so that Trump will not succeed. Their motivations are entirely disingenuous.
