Hollywood celeb Asia Argento made news when she was one of the first women to expose Harvey Weinstein. It propelled the formerly unknown actress into the spotlight. Now, after over a year of attention, Argent is facing serious problems.
The #MeToo movement was born after former Hollywood producer and bigwig Harvey Weinstein was outed as a sexual predator. The once beloved celebrity was accused of harassing, assaulting, and raping numerous women.
Many people began to question the ethics of the industry after it became clear that Hollywood was protecting Weinstein. He had been assaulting women for decades, after all. People began to wonder who knew about his behavior and who was covering it up (even his own company had a clause in his contract addressing sexual harassment).
In order to distract America from its seedy underbelly, Hollywood invented the #MeToo movement. They hoped it would distract us from the reality that the entire entertainment industry is run by rapists and child molesters. They tried to shape the Weinstein scandal as brave women coming out against corrupt men.
Of course, all that Hollywood celebs had to do was tweet out their support for these women with a simple hashtag. That would make it seem like they were doing something to end this abuse. Sure, we’re buying that.
Since Weinstein, many people have been exposed as predators. Yet Hollywood still pretends it supports women. In fact, many of the women coming out have used this scandal to further their career — including Asia Argento.
You probably never heard of Argento before this scandal. Yet after the Italian actress came out accusing Weinstein of abuse, she was all over the news. This “brave” woman was being celebrated for finally exposing Weinstein’s heinous sins.
Now, it seems like Argento is facing her own problems, as it has been revealed she sexually assaulted an underage man.
In the months that followed her revelations about Mr. Weinstein last October, Ms. Argento quietly arranged to pay $380,000 to her own accuser: Jimmy Bennett, a young actor and rock musician who said she had sexually assaulted him in a California hotel room years earlier, when he was only two months past his 17th birthday. She was 37. The age of consent in California is 18.
That claim and the subsequent arrangement for payments are laid out in documents between lawyers for Ms. Argento and Mr. Bennett, a former child actor who once played her son in a movie. [Source: The New York Times]
So, the woman who used her abuse by Weinstein to raise her profile in Hollywood was herself a sex offender. Not only did she take advantage of a young man, but she paid him off to keep silent, much like Harvey did time and again.
That must be a trendy thing to do in Hollywood. As hard as it might be to comprehend, the vast majority of “movers and shakers” in Hollywood are involved in these scandals. They either abuse people or are complicit in covering it up.
There are no victims in Tinseltown, just perpetrators better at hiding their tracks by pointing and shrieking at the misdeeds of others so no one looks too closely at their shady, disreputable and abusive pasts. If there’s any justice, Argento’s career is over. But don’t count on it for sure: after the campaign to get James Gunn reinstated almost worked, you can’t take anything for granted…
Has there been any spectacle more stomach-churning this year than the Golden Globes, during which a room full of anxious, decrepit rapists, child abusers and their enthusiastic collaborators congratulated themselves for their superior moral virtue? [Source: Dangerous.com]
Already, there are liberal journalists coming to Argento’s aid. Much like the case of Keith Ellison’s abuse of his girlfriend, Democrats are trying to cover up this scandal. They are trying to deny the charge while making the accuser appear dishonest.
What’s even less surprising: the journalists who leapt to protect her, demanding that the rest of us wait until the facts come out, asking if people will set her alleged assault of an underage boy aside because she’s such a good feminist and has tweeted so much pro-women propaganda, and tweeting bizarre stuff like “Two things can be true at once.” [Source: Dangerous.com]
This is the real face of Hollywood, the industry we look to for our entertainment and fun. It is full of sick individuals who prey on the weak. Only for those victims to turn around and do it to someone else. It makes you wonder why we even put up with them at all?
