Last week, Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg organized a boycott of Fox News host Laura Ingraham, demanding that her advertisers pull their support. In the wake of this controversy, MyPillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell has made Hogg a brilliant counter-offer, angering liberals everywhere.
In the aftermath of the Valentine’s Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, several student survivors of the shooting have become public advocates for stricter gun laws. But, undoubtedly, the most notorious of these underage activists is David Hogg, who reportedly hid with his peers as 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz roamed the high school and fatally shot 17 people.
With such notoriety, though, comes the possibility that you will encounter criticism from those on the opposite side of the aisle. Ever since Hogg became an outspoken advocate for gun control, he has been the subject of criticism from those who support the Second Amendment and gun rights, including Fox News host Laura Ingraham. Of course, Hogg invited this sort of scrutiny when he positioned himself as the nation’s leading teen activist in the push for gun control. He should have seen it coming, and frankly, he should have taken it in stride.
Hogg’s reaction, though, was to encourage a boycott of Ingraham’s advertisers after she claimed in a tweet that the Florida teen, who is currently applying to colleges, was “whining” about several rejection letters he has received. Although Hogg has said much nastier things than this during the short time he has been in the spotlight, Ingraham’s comment was enough to move Hogg to call for sponsors of Ingraham’s show to boycott the Fox News program.

According to IJR, advertisers including Jenny Craig, Nutrish, Hulu, TripAdvisor, Wayfair, Expedia, Nestlé, Johnson & Johnson, and Office Depot all pulled out of their partnerships with Ingraham due to the pressure from Hogg and his followers. “The decision of an adult to personally criticize a high school student who has lost his classmates in an unspeakable tragedy is not consistent with our values,” Wayfair stated. “We do not plan to continue advertising on this particular program.”
“I think it’s great that corporate America is standing with me and the rest of my friends,” Hogg told CNN, regarding the advertiser boycott of Ingraham’s show. “When you come against any one of us — whether it be me or anybody else — you’re coming against all of us.”
Well, now, another advertiser has responded to the feud, but they are taking a totally different approach. Mike Lindell, the CEO and founder of MyPillow, took to Twitter on Monday to announce that he has no intention of pulling his ads from Ingraham’s show after Hogg’s call to boycott:

While Lindell’s tweet sent liberals into a fit of rage, conservative social media users came out in droves to show their support for MyPillow. “Perfect, need to replace pillows for RV this summer know what I’m buying,” tweeted Kristi Allbright.

Laura Ingraham and others have every right to be critical of David Hogg and call him out for his incendiary antics — he’s nearly an adult and should be held accountable for the things he says and does, especially since he insists on placing himself in the spotlight as an outspoken, foul-mouthed, ill-mannered activist.
David Hogg chose the spotlight and he continues to choose the spotlight, which invites a certain kind of judgment. As they say, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro was the same age as David Hogg when he began writing his first syndicated column, and likewise, he received a fair amount of criticism for his opinions. However, Shapiro shrugged it off and chocked it up to being part of the job. He didn’t organize boycotts of those who called him out.
Hogg wants to have his cake and eat it too, but he cannot treat people with disrespect and then expect us all to give him a free pass. This is a difficult lesson for any teen, and it’s not something that will be fun for David Hogg to learn while he is in the public eye. But, again, he chose the spotlight, and he is responsible for his decisions.
