6 Months After Parkland Shooting, Hogg Gets Last News He Expected

August 14th marked the six-month anniversary of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which left several students dead and others as prominent teen activists involved in the gun control debate. Perhaps the most notorious of the teen activists to arise out of Parkland has been David Hogg, who reportedly hid with his peers as 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz roamed the high school and fatally shot 17 people. Hogg can’t be very happy. He just got the last news he expected after half a year of crusading for tighter gun control.

David Hogg has had a busy summer, organizing protests (complete with armed guards for himself), signing a book deal, and endorsing national political candidates. However, all of his work to secure more strict gun control for law-abiding citizens appears to have backfired tremendously.

According to a study released by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) on Friday, the demand for concealed carry permits is higher than ever:

The number of concealed carry weapons (CCW) permits is soaring to new levels despite the rabid anti-gun activism following a slew of school shootings over the past year.

Issued CCW permits increased approximately 275 percent over a ten-year period, from 4.6 million permits in 2007 to over 17.25 permits in 2018, according to a study released Friday by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC). The number has been increasing year over year and is forecast to continue trending upwards.

The most notable demographic increase was found to be among women and minorities. During the aforementioned time period, CCW issuance jumped 111 percent faster for women than for men. Moreover, compared to white individuals, permits for Asian and black individuals spiked 29 percent and 20 percent quicker, respectively. [Source: The Daily Caller]

“That increase in women and minorities mirrors their changing views on guns,” John Lott, the founder of the CPRC, told Fox News. “A poll by [the] Pew [Research Center] helps to explain why there has been such a large increase in concealed handgun permits among blacks and women. The poll shows a 25 percentage point increase in the proportion of blacks with a favorable view of gun ownership. This is the largest increase of any group.”

The study also found that CCW permit holders are “extremely” law-abiding citizens. For example, in Florida and Texas, two of the states with the largest number of permits issued, permit holders are convicted of misdemeanor and felony crimes at one-sixth of the rate that law enforcement officers are convicted.

Lott also noted, “The states that we have seen a slowing of permits have primarily been these ‘constitutional carry’ states where a permit is no longer required. Indeed, some of those states have even seen a drop in the number of permits even though the number of people carrying in those places has undoubtedly gone up.”

Of course, this is not the first time something like this has happened. It seems that the louder those on the left scream for gun control, the more guns are sold and permits are issued to law-abiding citizens who support the Second Amendment and don’t want to see their right to defend themselves taken away.

Gun sales in the United States have traditionally spiked in the wake of violent attacks and the subsequent pushes for new gun control measures which always follow in short order. It appears that the demand for concealed carry permits only increases, as well. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to ascertain what is happening here. It would seem that there is actually nothing better for the firearms industry than calls from the left to ban guns. Keep up the good work, Hogg!
