In a short span of time, the United States was struck by two powerful and devastating storms. If you live anywhere near the American South, chances are, you felt the impacts of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. However, what might be more shocking than the recent hurricanes is the stunning claim scientists just made about them, proving President Donald Trump was right once again.
Many of us were shocked to learn that, soon after Harvey struck Texas, another even more powerful hurricane was on its way. Irma hit parts of southern Florida with tremendous force, drenching much of the state in heavy flood waters.
In times like this, people are looking for something to blame, but natural disasters are unavoidable. We can prepare and recover, but we cannot stop them. The best we can do is endure, trusting that our country can rebuild and that God will protect those we love.
However, that’s not enough for the half-wits on the left. These knee-jerk, armchair experts were quick to use the terrible storms as an excuse to push forward their global warming agenda. For years, liberals have pointed to natural disasters as proof that human industry is making the earth warmer. Anytime there is a bad storm, blizzard, even earthquakes (if you can believe it), they blame climate change.
Their real goal is to scare the public into supporting policy changes by the government — changes that would give government officials greater power over our lives. Climate change is more of a ruse to push socialist policy, which would erode individual liberties.
But, it looks like the climate alarmists were a bit premature on this one. As many of these “experts” took to blogs and Twitter to blame Harvey and Irma on all of our cars and factories, real scientists have something else to say.
In an article titled “Harvey and Irma Can’t be Blamed on Climate Change,” environmental expert Nicolas Loris proclaimed that man-made warming did not lead to the devastating hurricanes that rocked parts of Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and beyond.
“Man-made warming did not cause Harvey and Irma. As carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions have increased, there have been no trends in global tropical cycle landfalls. Before Harvey and Irma, with a little bit of luck, the United States was in a 12-year hurricane drought. More importantly, the average number of hurricanes per decade reaching landfall in the U.S. has fallen over the past 160 years.”
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what real facts look like. We are so used to the hyper, overly exaggerated statements from politicians and liberal bloggers, that we rarely get to hear the truth. The fact of the matter is, there is no real evidence that connects an increase in admissions with a rise in hurricanes.
According to Loris, we hadn’t had a serious hurricane in over 12 years. Yeah, that thing with Katrina? That happened in 2005. That was ages ago, in hurricane terms. Usually, we see a significant storm or two forming every year. The fact that the South hadn’t seen any in such a long time is odd in and of itself.
More than that, there is no evidence that suggests climate change “supercharged” Irma or Harvey. As Breitbart noted, University of Washington climatologist Cliff Mass studied the Gulf and learned that there is no evidence that global warming is influencing an increase in precipitation in coastal parts of Texas. He also found that there is little evidence that warmer temperatures have any impact on the intensity of storms.
This coincides with the increasing revelation that “carbon taxes” and other measures by liberal governments have no impact on supposed climate change. This is one of the major reasons President Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord. In addition to costing America billions of dollars and millions of jobs, it would have done nothing to change global warming.
In blunt language, the President said that this agreement “is less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States.” [Source: Breitbart]
And, that’s what it’s really all about, folks. Climate change and “green” policy is not about saving the world. It’s really a ruse to give globalists an economic advantage over the U.S. and other thriving countries. It’s an excuse to push for more laws, regulation, and restrictions on what you can do. It’s all hidden behind a mask of science and facts, but the real facts beg to differ.
