If you thought Democrats and the Hollywood elite went out of their minds on Election Day, you haven’t seen anything until you take a look at the tear explosion that happened on Wednesday, immediately after Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement.
In a letter to President Donald Trump, the 81-year-old justice tendered his retirement and Democrats, knowing how helpless they are to do anything to stop whoever the president nominates, went over the edge.
“My dear Mr. President,” Justice Kennedy began. “This letter is a respectful and formal notification of my decision, effective July 31 of this year, to end my regular active status as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court while continuing to serve in a senior status, as provided in 28 U.S.C 371 (b). For a member of the legal profession it is the highest of honors to serve on this Court. Please permit me by this letter to express my profound gratitude for having had the privilege to seek in each case how best to know, interpret, and defend the Constitution and the laws that must always conform to its mandates and promises,” he wrote.
And with that short letter, the waterworks began. It was led in large part by the Hollywood leftists who think everything that happens means that America is going to become a fascist state or a real-life iteration of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
“The illegitimate POTUS will now try to ram a SCOTUS nominee through before Nov. So much for that McConnell rule. Calling on two principled Republicans to stand up against tyranny,” wrote Rob Reiner, the actor most famous for playing “Meathead” on “All In The Family.”

“SUPREME COURT NOW COMPLETELY RIGHT WING ‘trumps SUPREME COURT’ WILL TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHTS‼ROE V.WADE,GAY RIGHTS,TOO MANY TO LIST‼THIS BLOW COULDN’T BE MORE SEVERE‼IF WE DONT FIGHT LIKE OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT, ‘SOME AMERICANS’ COULD FIND ‘THEMSELVES’ IN INTERNMENT CAMPS,” Cher wrote. Internment camps? What case would come before the Supreme Court in which five justices would allow internment camps?

“Every single institution or agency in our government is being dismantled by this administration. Congress, gone, SCOTUS, gone, the Executive branch, in the hands of a madman, the FBI, DOE, EPA, etc. etc. etc. And you thought it couldn’t happen here,” Bette Midler wrote.

But it was not just celebrities. MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews was ranting and raving at the news. “If the Democrats in the U.S. Senate allow President Trump to pack the Supreme Court with a 5-4 majority for the next 30 years, it’s not something the Progressive Democratic voter will soon forget. Two years ago, Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell mocked the Democrats by refusing to even meet with President Obama’s court nominee. In 2018 with just a handful of months before Election Day, one that will decide which party controls the Senate, Democrats owe it to their party, the principle and their own survival to do to Mitch what Mitch did to them,” he said. “If the Democrats fail to stop him, there will be, I predict, a full-scale rebellion against the leaders.”

And The New York Times Editorial Board wrote, “With Justice Kennedy’s departure, the court is very likely to lock in an unmoderated, hard-right majority for the rest of most of our lives.” And you know what? It is correct.
Justice Kennedy sided with conservatives the majority of the time. But there were some major decisions in which Justice Kennedy gave victories to progressives. Those cases include legalizing gay marriage in the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges case, reaffirmed the right to abortion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 1991, banned the death penalty for juveniles in 2005’s Roper v. Simmons and gave rights to Guantanamo Bay detainees in 2008’s Boumediene v. Bush case.
It is highly likely that whoever President Donald Trump appoints to the Supreme Court will ultimately be the deciding vote in finally getting rid of Roe v. Wade and affirmative action to name just two cases that will likely come before the court.
