Thomas Markle, Sr. woke up in the middle of the night to watch his beloved daughter get married to British royalty. With an eight hour time difference, Mr. Markle, who apparently just had angioplasty days ago, talked from his home in Mexico described as a hellhole. His extremely sad conversation revealed the shocking truth about Meghan.
Most fathers are very protective of their daughters, and we are beginning to see Thomas Markle, Sr. in that way. The entire charade surrounding Meghan’s father not walking her down the aisle is something that has been speculated on, as the events leading up to the wedding just got downright bizarre.
Now, from his sick bed in Mexico, it’s looking sadly like Mr. Markle is not someone Meghan wants in her life. It’s looking like she really didn’t ever want him at the wedding, and he has been covering for her like a protective dad.
He told TMZ about watching the wedding, saying, “My baby girl is a duchess and I love her so much. When you watch your child get married, every thought goes through your mind, every memory from the first day she was born, the first time I held her.”
TMZ added, “Meghan’s father tells us he texted her today, telling her he loves her. He says he watched the ceremony on TV from his bed, where he’s recuperating from heart surgery.”
Mr. Markle’s final comment was, “Now I pray that Harry and Meghan can go on a nice honeymoon and rest and relax, and all of my relatives will just shut up about everything.”

We’ve scoured through all the direct quotes from Mr. Markle who really didn’t start speaking to the press until a few days before the wedding. From all of his comments, he has not talked directly to Meghan since she got engaged. We can only confirm he alleges she texted him once.
As for the debacle surrounding the paparazzo in which he was caught staging photos, those vultures found him in Mexico and camped out the minute she got engaged. For six months, he kept his mouth shut. He could have named his price for an in-depth tell-all interview, but he did not.
After the paparazzo plastered photos of him buying beer and eating at shabby taco joints, he agrees to do these staged photos. Here’s how the Washington Post‘s Kathleen Parker sees it. She reported, “In retrospect, a paparazzo would have needed the aid of supernatural intercessionaries to capture so many ‘spontaneous’ events.”
She concludes, “But in my fairy tale, Markle wasn’t trying to profit via his soon-to-be-royal daughter. He was reinventing himself as the better man his Meghan made him want to be. By creating images over which he did have some control, perhaps he was projecting how he sees himself. To me, they were valentines to his daughter — and heartbreakingly dear.”
It’s important to note that his staged photos come only a few weeks before the wedding. We think it wasn’t until that point that Meghan finds out from the palace that they want tradition, they want her father there to walk her down the aisle.
Hastily, someone contacts him from the palace to make the arrangements. It’s not Meghan, we know this from Mr. Markle who dodged every question about when was the last time he spoke to her. Doria Ragland wasn’t the one to walk her down the aisle. In a strange move, Prince Charles met her halfway and took her to the altar.
We also know Meghan still hasn’t called her dad. According to a US Weekly headline, “Duchess Meghan ‘Didn’t Talk to Her Father’ Thomas Markle the Day She Married Prince Harry,” which goes on to report that “a source tells Us Weekly that the 36-year-old ‘didn’t talk to her father’ on the big day as she married Prince Harry.”
British citizens weighed in on the Daily Mail website, saying, “Meghan finally got rid of her father,” as the tweet below shows:

Wow, you’d think maybe she could have spared 3 minutes to call her father since his surgery? From videos of Meghan right out of high school, it’s obvious she was close to her father who paid for her elite private education at Immaculate Heart Catholic High School near Beverly Hills.
During her formative years from 7th-12th grade, she got the type of elite education at an all-girls institution which includes learning “etiquette,” allowing her to fit into the upper echelon of society. This was not the type of education given to her older half-siblings who were born before Mr. Markle had made it as a prominent lighting director.
Not all Hollywood starlets could present themselves with confidence to have tea with the Queen or date a prince. Her father had something to do with giving her that type of education. But sadly it seems they couldn’t teach her to love selflessly.
He also sent her on a European school tour chaperoned by her teachers at Immaculate Heart which cost a pretty penny. Here she is pictured at 15-years-old in front of Buckingham Palace:
Kathleen Parker’s Washington Post article is titled, “The real hero of the royal wedding: The father of the bride.” Meghan’s mom has quit her job in Los Angeles, and it appears as if she is on the royal payroll. Her father seems to be the one left out in the cold, and still, he wants only what is best for her.
He truly wants her to be happy, asking nothing for himself. I think Parker is right, the real hero of this royal wedding is Meghan’s father who most probably will someday die in that Mexican hellhole remaining her staunchest supporter, regardless that he’ll probably never see her again.
