Earlier this week, Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski used a homophobic slur to describe Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s relationship with President Donald Trump. She later appeared on TV, where she offered an apology — but she made one big mistake.
As a member of the liberal media resistance to Trump, Mika Brzezinski faced almost no backlash and only offered a weak apology on social media. Thursday, Brzezinski was absent from the show, but Friday the exile was lifted.
Brzezinski apologized for using a homophobic slur. Unfortunately, she left out the part where she was sorry to Pompeo or Trump.
This started on Wednesday when Brzezinski was interviewing Illinois Senator Dick Durbin about Saudia Arabia. Brzezinski was mad about Trump and Pompeo’s reaction to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi when her rage boiled over into this:
“I understand that Donald Trump doesn’t care, but why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care right now? Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard when he appeared on Fox & Friends — is that a patriot speaking or a wannabe dictator’s butt-boy?” Brzezinski asked.
Brzezinski faced some mild pushback on Twitter for suggesting the Secretary of State was the President’s submissive gay sex slave so she apologized to Dick Durbin for reasons that only make sense to her.
On Thursday, Brzezinski had to sit in the corner to think about what she had done, but by Friday she was back on Morning Joe and took a second turn at trying to apologize.
“I want to get to something first. I was off yesterday for a family matter, as you mentioned, but I wanted to address a term that I used on this show on Wednesday that was vulgar. I knew it right away, and I tweeted that it was a terrible choice of words and that I was sorry. But, please allow me to say this face-to-face,” started Brzezinski.
“The term is crass and offensive and I apologize to everyone, especially the LGBTQ community and to my colleagues for using it. It was a mistake. My father would have found it so unbecoming and disrespectful, and he would have told me. I will work hard to be better. But, I just wanted to say on camera, looking the viewers straight in the eye, I am really, really sorry,” said Brzezinski.
Okay, she apologized to the viewers, the LGBT community, and her colleagues, but what about Mike Pompeo who she called Trump’s “butt-boy”? And for that matter, how about apologizing to President Trump as well? Trump and Pompeo are, after all, the ones that she slurred, so presumably, they are the ones most deserving of an apology.
Yesterday, in explaining Brzezinski’s absence from the show, co-host Joe Scarborough commented that it was a shame she was gone because they were going to discuss baseball, so let’s use a baseball analogy to look at how bad this apology was.
If Brzezinski was playing baseball in the neighborhood and hit a dinger that broke Mrs. Johnson’s window, naturally she would apologize to Mrs. Johnson. What Brzezinski has done here is apologize to her teammates, the neighbors, and the manufacturer of the baseball, but gave Mrs. Johnson a big middle finger by omitting her from the list of people she is sorry to have offended.
Brzezinski said something on TV that would have gotten a conservative or anyone who is not a raging liberal fired. Instead of getting canned, she had one day off, issued a non-apology, and everything is cool. Yet, Kevin Hart was booted from the Oscars for old homophobic jokes on Twitter, Roseanne Barr was stripped of her TV show and career for an ill-advised joke about Valerie Jarrett, and Megyn Kelly was fired from NBC for an innocuous observation about blackface on Halloween.
Hart, Barr, and Kelly all apologized, expressing genuine regret, but it didn’t matter, they were banished. Mika Brzezinski gave a half-assed apology with zero regrets to the people she actually offended, and she gets to keep her job. This is what the liberal double-standard looks like, and it’s a major reason why people no longer trust the liberal media.
