Ambassador Nikki Haley stepping down this year, President Donald Trump has to find her replacement. He has selected Heather Nauert. When the liberal media learned she was once a Fox News correspondent, they flipped their lids. But how did they react when Obama did the exact same thing with a CNN employee? This is going to make you a bit angry.
Nikki Haley was given perhaps one of the toughest jobs in the president’s cabinet. As U.N. ambassador, she had to wrestle with the corrupt politics of D.C. and the corrupt politics of every government represented in the United Nations.
Now, that she’s stepping down, a new person will have to take over that role. That requires someone who will be just as tough, determined, and unyielding in representing Donald Trump’s global policies. Considering that Trump has nominated Heather Nauert, we can hope she will be just as effective as Haley.
Heather Nauert has served in the U.S. Department of State. She has enjoyed praise from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as well as Ivanka Trump, daughter and aid to the president. That should be enough for most Americans to feel confident about her qualifications as a diplomat.
But she was also a journalist for Fox News for many years. When that got out, other media outlets — obvious rivals to Fox — were quick to condemn Trump’s pick and question her qualifications.
Imagine my surprise.
CNN immediately called into doubt Nauert’s skills. In a section of a news piece titled” Qualifications questioned,” CNN cited a “senior diplomat” who said, “This is extraordinary. Especially in the footsteps of the former ambassadors: Madeleine Albright, Susan Rice.”
The Washington Post quoted career presidential aide David Gergen, who said, “In terms of what we normally look for at the United Nations, her résumé is very thin.”
But that’s not all the MSM was moaning about. Many liberal news outlets criticized the Trump administration for employing former journalists, including a few from Fox News. [Source: The Daily Wire]
Judging from the backlash from other media outlets, you would think what Trump was doing was completely erratic and crazy. NO other president has hired a reporter to an important position — especially as ambassador to the U.N.
Oh wait… Obama did.
In 2013, Obama nominated Samantha Powers for the U.N. post. Powers had begun her illustrious career as a war correspondent for four years, covering the Yugoslav Wars for U.S. News & World Report and the Boston Globe, among other publications. She went on to become director of a human rights center at
Harvard, but also continued as a columnist for Time magazine.She joined the Obama campaign in
2008, but was quickly forced to resign after she called Hillary Clinton a “monster” who was “stooping to anything” to win.But after Powers’ nomination to the U.N. position, powerful Republicans like Sen. John McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham, along with independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman, backed her, and she was confirmed by a Senate vote of 87-10. She served in the position for more than three years and was succeeded by Trump’s appointment, Nikki Haley, who is stepping down at the end of this year. [Source: The Daily Wire]
Did you hear about any outrage over Obama’s pick, a former CNN reporter, back in 2013? You probably didn’t even know who Obama nominated. Because the media didn’t bother covering the news all that effectively.
It’s a double standard that we’ve seen go on for over two years. The biased mainstream media hammers President Trump over every last decision he makes. They look for reasons to not just complain but make big proclamations that he is ruining the presidency and America.
Remember when they blamed him for separating children from their families at the border? They accused Trump of being horribly cruel to immigrant families. But Obama was doing it long before Trump. There was no outrage, no demands back then that Obama was disgracing our country and harming immigrant children.
Yet the outrage over the same policy by Trump (even after he ended it) was deafening. Magazines had covers portraying Trump as some kind of uncaring monster. The liberal media blamed him for problems at the border.
Now, they are doing the same thing with his U.N. nomination. They suggest that because Nauert worked for Fox News, she is unqualified to serve as an ambassador. The media is trying to make Trump out to be incompetent and biased.
But when it was Obama, they didn’t say boo. This is an ongoing campaign to undermine our leader and make his presidency seem illegitimate.
The question is, are you going to stand for it?
