While fasting during the Islamic month of Ramadan, a Muslim community was furious when they arrived at their mosque to find the mayor’s “immoral” surprise waiting for them.
When Muslims are in the West, they demand the majority respect their religion by accommodating or adhering to their ideological compulsions. Anything less than this is considered bigotry and intolerance. Of course, in their own countries, this respect is enforced by Sharia law, invoking tyrannical oppression and inhumane punishments for dissent.
Disturbingly, the same subjugation of religious groups that plagues Islamic countries is predictably growing in European nations that have opened their borders to mass Muslim migration. One tell-tale example of this coercion is the enforcement of Ramadan restrictions on non-Muslims.
While the Islamic minority is not yet powerful enough to force its European hosts to adhere to religious fasting, they often successfully pressure their communities into refraining from eating around observing Muslims, insisting that even the aroma of meals be kept far away from them. Unfortunately for one Islamic neighborhood, their ultimatum fell on the wrong politician.
Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb has sparked international outrage for allowing the local Patriotic Europeans Against Islamization of the West (Pegida) chapter to roast pigs on spits in front of a mosque during Ramadan fasting in the Netherlands, Hurriyet Daily News reports. The pork barbecue is apparently so “immoral” that it has gained the attention of Turkey’s EU Affairs Minister Ömer Çelik, who furiously condemned Aboutaleb for allowing such a gathering.
“On Thursday, at the time of the breaking of Ramadan fast, members of this fascist organization will hold a barbeque party in front of Rotterdam’s Laleli Mosque of Islamitische Stichting Nederland and they will roast pigs on spits,” Çelik tweeted.
Çelik was dramatic in his indignance, absurdly calling the cookout and Aboutaleb’s approval of it “the most immoral attempt ever in the history of hate crimes,” according to Hurriyet.
“Granting legal permission to such an immoral activity is also another deficiency of morality,” he added. “Other municipalities in the Netherlands did not allow Pegida to roast pigs in front of mosques at the fast-breaking time. However, Ahmet Abutalib [sic], Mayor of Rotterdam, who is of Moroccan origin, thinks that this activity of Pegida is not against the law. Such a gross tragedy!” said the EU minister.
Incredibly, Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb is a Muslim Moroccan immigrant to the Netherlands with dual citizenship. Despite his Islamic faith and liberal party membership, Aboutaleb has expressed certain secular beliefs, including the insistence that protesting and insulting Islam are inherent rights held by the Dutch people, and that he will not infringe upon them, the NL Times reports. Unsurprisingly, Turkey’s EU Affairs Minister maintains the Sharia-based belief that no one has the right to insult Islam.
“Mr. Abutalib, from a Muslim family, says that organizing a demonstration is a fundamental legal right. Since when has disrespect to mosques become a legal right? Any disrespect to mosques, churches and synagogues is a hate crime,” Celik wrote.
In a futile effort to prevent worshipers from smelling the roasting pork, Çelik promised that Turks will help their fellow Muslims in Rotterdam place flowers around the mosque in order to “erect a wall of love with flowers against the odor of hate.”
“Muslims will teach a humanity lesson against this policy of hatred. Thus, they will remind everyone of the respect to mosques, churches and synagogues,” he said.
As of June 8, a report confirms that the Pegida chapter made a last-minute decision to cancel the barbecue in front of the Mosque. The group claims that they were forced to terminate their event after local police warned them that they could not protect them should the opposition resort to violence. The police dispute this claim, arguing that the group simply chose to cancel on its own. However, Mayor Aboutaleb suggested that Pegida demonstrators were in danger, confirming that the chapter left “when they saw the crowd” gathering to meet them.
Despite hundreds of angry protesters hurling vitriol toward him at the canceled event, Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb stands strong in his defense of the Dutch to speak freely and protest Islam.
While a pig roast isn’t effective in stopping the Islamization of a Western nation, allowing offensive expression is crucial to a free society. Free speech is the fundamental upon which our civilization is founded, and it must be preserved at all cost. This is why devout Muslims fight it so fervently. Not only is it against Sharia law, it’s destruction is the key to dismantling a prosperous democracy.
