Yesterday, news swept the nation about the amazing feat President-elect Donald Trump was able to accomplish before even taking office. Trump, along with Vice President-elect Mike Pence, forged a deal with Carrier, keeping 1,000 jobs in the US. However, not everyone is taking the news quite so well, and none other than the current president and his administration had a sickening response.
After the announcement that Trump and Pence had convinced the heating and air conditioning giant Carrier to keep its plant in Indianapolis, which was previously slated to close and move to Mexico, people everywhere celebrated and the achievement was heavily applauded. Unfortunately, it seems not everyone was thrilled.
Following the announcement, Obama’s mouthpiece, Josh Earnest, held his daily press briefing, where he was asked about Trump’s Carrier deal and whether Obama’s White House had any thoughts about the strategy that was employed. That’s when Earnest, representing Obama, had a complete meltdown and all-out fit, as his condescending words became heavily laced with arrogance in what can only be described as a sickening response. Watch:
“I know that the president-elect has indicated that he deserves credit for that announcement,” Earnest began, before leaping into tantrum mode with a petty and infantile reaction. “If he is successful in doing that 804 more times, then he will meet the record of manufacturing jobs that were created in the United States while President Obama was in office. As we go to protecting jobs, there are more than a million jobs in the industrial Midwest that were saved when President Obama made the decision to rescue the American auto industry.”
Rather than answering what was asked, Obama’s White House childishly responded, “but look at me, look what I can do!” as if it were a competition. What’s worse, just like the children who do this, their perception of their own self-importance wasn’t accurate.
If Obama was truly so great, his reputation would precede him and there would be no need to minimize Trump’s achievement to prevent Obama from looking rather small. Furthermore, having “804 times” ready to roll off his arrogant tongue tells us something else. This response was planned. After some likely yelling, cursing, and seething, this was the talking point that was agreed upon to tout Obama since they were well aware how Trump’s success was going to make Obama look.
As for Earnest, who could only give one sad example of President Obama saving manufacturing jobs, citing Obama’s decision to “rescue” the American auto industry, Rush Limbaugh accurately sums up what really happened there:
“President Obama did not rescue the American auto industry. He bought it and then tried to turn it over to the unions. There wasn’t any rescue. What Trump has done with Carrier and what Obama did with the auto industry are two entirely different things. For there to be any similarity here, Trump would be the owner of Carrier today, and he would have gone in and browbeat them and made who knows what kind of deals in order to transfer the ownership … Obama’s purpose was to go in and take the auto industry away from people that owned it, and that’s exactly what happened!”
As Rush explains, General Motors (GM) bondholders were told “they had to pound sand. They got diddly-squat” because “Obama took t away from them.” So, to compare what Obama’s so-called rescuing of GM to Trump’s Carrier deal is grossly inaccurate.
The truth is, there haven’t been any jobs rescued under Obama, and while new jobs have been created, most of those are part time and a result of Obamacare requirements. According to manufacturing employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. has lost hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs. We have had businesses shut down, no economic growth, and no economic recovery as America became stagnant under Obama’s “leadership.” This is why his response to Trump’s success was one of belittling, and while Obama blames everyone but himself for Hillary Clinton’s loss, this is why Trump won.
Saving a thousand jobs is bigger than any of Obama’s economic achievements, and his White House knows it. That’s why the White House responded the way it did. It was all deflection, attempting to hide their rage after Obama’s stimulus didn’t work and Obamacare kicked most Americans in the teeth with skyrocketing premiums and measly coverage.
The proof of Obama’s failure is in America’s reaction to Trump’s Carrier announcement. With a population of over 320 million, 1,000 jobs are not a lot. However, it was the most uplifting news for so many, not just in Indianapolis, but across the country, because it was a sign of real hope. It was the positive economic news we needed and had been missing for the last 8 years.
