As a teacher, you tend to get several gifts from your students every year around Christmas time. However, when one set of parents in Ohio decided to get creative and give their son’s teachers a wine bottle as a present, the message they put on the label has left viewers utterly stunned.
The parents of DJ Sommers of Dayton, Ohio, have made it a tradition to give their children’s teachers a gift every year. This year, his parents got a little more creative with DJ’s little brother’s teacher gifts. After deciding to give ten of his teachers the exact same gift, a wine bottle, it’s the unique label they designed from scratch that has left viewers stunned.
“My parents always get our elementary school teachers a present around Christmas,” DJ explained on Twitter. “Typically something small like a candle or flower to say thank you. This year they got them bottles of wine & replaced the labels with their own with my brother on them… Happy holidays.”
Although it is a rather original idea in general, it’s the message that they had written on the label that has people talking. In what could be a teacher’s favorite gift or their worst nightmare, the wine bottle features a picture of DJ’s little brother and reads, “Our child might be the reason you drink, so enjoy this bottle on us,” according to Fox News.

The message is as original as it gets and has left many people laughing out loud. As a result, the tweet has been gaining in popularity and has more than 37,000 likes and 6,000 retweets, easily on its way to going viral as people on the Internet love this unique gift idea.
In fact, several people decided to sound off about the gift choice on Twitter. “Omg these parents deserve a medal,” one social media user commented, while another stated, “Your parents are awesome! What a funny and practical idea,” and yet another added, “Very thoughtful of those parents. I’m sure I made plenty of teachers want to have more than one.”
Remarkably, several teachers chimed in to state their thoughts on the gift idea, too. One said, “As a teacher, I can definitely appreciate this kind gesture! Merry Christmas to you and your family. And to your brother too! Lol,” while another added, “I’ve been a teacher for over 10 years and this is hilarious! I don’t even drink, but this would be the BEST GIFT EVER!!!”
Of course, if you are thinking about this gift for your children’s teachers in years to come, please remember, your little one can get in huge trouble for taking such an item into the classroom. So, make sure you figure out an alternative delivery option because if little Johnny walks in with this, his next stop is likely the principal’s office.
That being said, it’s true that teachers may have one of the most difficult jobs there are, so it’s easy to see why a glass of wine might sound good after dealing with not only their students but parents as well all year round.
Christmas is a time of year to be thankful for what you have and that includes the wonderful teachers in your children’s lives. Although all of us may not have money to buy everyone a present this year, it’s often the people we might forget who deserve it the most.
So, if you ever are having a difficult time trying to decide what to get someone for Christmas, maybe you just need to take a tip from these parents and get a little original and creative. Clearly, people loved the idea, and there’s no doubt the teachers will be thankful for it too.
