One can only imagine how stressful it must be for every second of your life to suddenly be documented by the media. Although it’s something that Vice President-elect Mike Pence signed up for, there aren’t many opportunities for a man in his position to make an unexpected stop. However, a man was recently left shocked when he witnessed what Pence did at a secret stop that wasn’t on his itinerary – and it’s undoubtedly going to be what everyone’s talking about.
December 7th was Pearl Harbor Day, and Benny Johnson decided to attend the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. on this day of remembrance. However, something unexpected happened when he watched a motorcade pull up and surround the area.
As the five SUV’s sat idling in their position, Secret Service members were clearly visible. Johnson knew it was someone of importance who had decided to attend, and that person was Mike Pence.
Pence was sitting with many WWII veterans, including “some who served during the attack on Pearl Harbor, FDR’s grandson, and Senator John McCain,” according to IJ Review. However, it’s not Pence’s presence that truly left Johnson awestruck, but rather, how Pence insisted that his attendance at the event was kept a secret, not to cause a “distraction” and to allow the focus of the event to revolve around the veterans present.
A source, who insisted on being anonymous, said that Pence merely wanted to “sit in the audience” and not to be recognized. “He wanted his presence to be a gesture of respect to the veterans in attendance,” said the source. “If the event was placed on the vice president-elect’s official schedule, Secret Service would have had to lock down the entire area, subjecting the veterans in attendance, some in wheelchairs, to metal detectors and other invasive security procedures.”
Although Mike Pence’s attendance was noted by everyone at the memorial, it’s clear that his mission to provide a respectful atmosphere for the veterans present was a complete success. In fact, he simply placed a wreath at the gold star wall as an honorable tribute to the Americans who were lost in WWII.
Unfortunately, the Obama administration was never too good at respecting our military. Thankfully, both President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence are honorable men who will ensure our men and women who have served our country are respected and taken care of, which is something they deserve.
