Last month, “Saturday Night Live” cast member Pete Davidson took aim at Texas Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost an eye in Afghanistan. Now, the comedian is suicidal. But Crenshaw had the perfect response for the struggling SNL star who had mocked him only weeks earlier.

Dan Crenshaw was on patrol in the Helmand province of Afghanistan in 2012 when an IED blast ripped through his body. Crenshaw was medically evacuated out of the area and put into a medically-induced coma. When he awoke, he was totally blind.

Doctors told Crenshaw he would never see again. And were it not for his decision to undergo risky, experimental treatment, he might not have. Ultimately, Crenshaw regained sight in one eye but lost the other.

While Crenshaw’s background ought to elicit only the deepest respect from the public, last month, he was made the butt of a joke by “Saturday Night Live” cast member Pete Davidson:

“Saturday Night Live” cast member Pete Davidson mocked the appearance of Republican congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost his eye in an IED blast in Afghanistan.

“This guy is kind of cool — Dan Crenshaw,” began Davidson during a “Weekend Update” segment.

A photo of Crenshaw, who wears an eyepatch, flashed on the screen, eliciting laughter from Davidson, his fellow cast members and the SNL audience.

“You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit-man in a porno movie,” continued Davidson, who’s known for his recently failed relationship with pop star Ariana Grande. [Source: The Daily Caller]

You know what they say about bullies; namely, that they pick on others because they’re so miserable with themselves. That appears to be the case where Pete Davidson is concerned. Making fun of a veteran’s war injuries didn’t make him feel any better about his own life, however, and on Saturday, he took to social media to share his suicidal thoughts.

“I really don’t want to be on his earth anymore,” Davidson wrote on Instagram. “I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer can last. all I’ve ever tried to do was help people. just remember I told you so.”

Considering the fact that Davidson had mocked Crenshaw in the past, you probably wouldn’t expect what happened next. Crenshaw personally called the SNL star and had a heart-to-heart with him to make sure he was okay.

Texas Rep.-elect Dan Crenshaw said he called Pete Davidson after hearing about the disturbing social media message the “Saturday Night Live” star posted over the weekend.

“I talked to him personally [Sunday],” said Crenshaw. “We don’t go back very far. We’re not good friends. But, I think he appreciated hearing from me. I told him everyone had a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason. It’s your job to find that purpose. And you should live that way.”

“Know you have value,” Crenshaw said he told Davidson. “Especially a guy like that: sometimes he makes people laugh. Sometimes makes people mad. But he makes people laugh a lot. It was a good conversation.”

The sort of compassion Dan Crenshaw has shown to Pete Davidson is something we can all learn from. Thank God this man was elected to Congress. We need more people of character in Washington, D.C.
