A Teacher in Pittsburg, Kansas recently decided to enrich the lives of her students by taking them on a class trip. However, things didn’t quite go according to plan as a stranger stepped in and threw quite the wrench in the works.
Special education teacher Melissa Kinney had taken her special education high school students to practice bowling for the Special Olympics. After their practice, she took them to Cici’s Pizza in Joplin, Missouri to get some lunch. What happened while they were there will have a lasting impact on these kids that Kinney never could have predicted.
After the group finished their lunch and took care of their bill, they unexpectedly were informed that they would be given a full refund for their meal because an anonymous man had paid their bill in full.
“I’m just astonished, overwhelmed and kind of excited that somebody would want to do that for staff and students of special needs,” Kinney said, according to Opposing Views.
Although employees at the restaurant have seen this kind of generosity from strangers before, they have never seen it at quite this magnitude. Assistant manager of Cici’s in Joplin, Leslie Breedlove explained, “It was about fourteen people total, so he spent about one hundred dollars out of pocket, probably a little bit more to do what he thought was the right thing. And it was really cool.”
Considering that the students earned money for their trip through fundraisers, the kindness of this stranger has made it possible for the students to afford another trip. “They get out into the community, interact with the community, and feel like they’re a part,” Kinney explained, according to KOAMTV.
In a world that seems to be full of evil, this just goes to prove that there is still some good left in people. One amazing act of kindness by a stranger can completely transform a child’s view on the world, but providing that generosity to students with special needs is priceless.
