Teen Kicked Out Of Class For ‘Inappropriate’ Outfit, Viewers Appalled By What They See

A “busty” Missouri teen was kicked out of her child development class when she showed up wearing an “inappropriate” outfit. After speaking with the principal at her daughter’s school, the girl’s mother posted a photo of the outfit in question on Facebook and viewers have been appalled by what they see.

Kelsey Anderson, a 17-year-old student at Joplin High School in Missouri, was pulled out of class and sent to the principal’s office for wearing a blouse that “didn’t cover her cleavage properly.”

Melissa Barber says her daughter Kelsey Anderson was singled out in front of her peers at Joplin High School, in Joplin, Missouri, after the teacher claimed that her long-sleeved blouse and jeans violated the dress code.

When Kelsey asked why she had been reprimanded, the teacher reportedly told her that ‘bustier women need to wear clothing that covers their cleavage’ and ‘plus-sized women need to dress accordingly’. [Source: Daily Mail]

“I received a call from the school about my daughter being sent to the office for a dress code violation,” Melissa explained in a now-viral Facebook post. “She was sent to the office by her Child Development teacher Mrs. Morris. When my daughter asked why she was being sent to the office, this teacher told her ‘bustier women need to wear clothing that covers their cleavage.’ Then followed it up by saying ‘Plus size women need to dress accordingly,'” wrote Melissa.

“My daughter has just been called ‘Busty’ and ‘Plus Size’ in front of the entire class,” continued the aggravated mother. “I was called to come to the school for a meeting with a counselor (female) and a principal (male). This principal continued to defend the teacher by saying ‘Well, we have never had a problem with her before,'” added Melissa.

“I began explaining that my daughter was just sexualized by her teacher in front of the whole class,” she wrote. “She was embarrassed and horrified. She requested to be removed from the teacher’s class. He said no. He continued to defend the teacher. I could see we were getting nowhere. I was close to losing my temper. I took my daughter by the hand and we left. I refuse to put my daughter in a situation where her self-esteem is completely destroyed. She is there to learn. This whole time she was missing out on an education while we were all sitting in a room discussing her boobs,” Melissa wrote.

She also shared a photo on Facebook of the outfit Kelsey was wearing, writing, “This is the shirt that just got my 17-year-old dress coded. The teacher said, ‘Your boobs are bigger than most girls, and you are gonna have to try harder.’ She really needs to not speak to my daughter like that. What is wrong with the way this child is dressed????” Melissa has decided to hire an attorney to settle the matter.

After her Facebook post unexpectedly went viral, Melissa expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of support she and her daughter received on social media over the dress code incident. “I just wanted to say thank you for all the positive support and feedback we have gotten,” Melissa wrote in a follow-up Facebook post.

“It was never my intent to go viral. I never even considered it a possibility. But it has and here we are. I can’t comment on anything further at this time, per the advice of our attorney. I will give you updates when I am able to. Thank you so much for standing with her! I started this fight for my daughter. I will finish it for yours,” she concluded.

The District’s Board of Education policy on student dress code states, “Dress that materially disrupts the educational environment will be prohibited.” However, it’s difficult to see how Kelsey’s outfit would have been distracting to other students, especially when other girls routinely show up to school with their private areas on display.

Modesty is most definitely an issue in this day and age, especially among the younger generations, but Kelsey does not appear to have a problem covering herself properly. The administrators at her school were out of line in this case.
