Although most of us believe that those who do bad things should be held accountable for their actions, this isn’t always the case. A thief was shot dead after breaking into another person’s home, but his family had a ridiculous response on the matter.
The incident took place in Miami, Florida, where 17-year-old Trevon Johnson — who has had previous run-ins with the law — decided to enter a residence without the home owner’s permission. Unfortunately for him, the home was fitted with a security system that alerted the unidentified female property owner, who wasn’t home at the time.
The concerned resident called 911 to report the suspicious presence before darting home. Making matters worse for Johnson, the homeowner was actually a concealed carry permit holder and had her firearm with her at the time.
After she arrived home, she caught Johnson in the act and confronted him as he was leaving the residence through the back door. Although it’s unclear what took place next, the homeowner discharged her firearm, striking Johnson with a single round that would later kill him.
Although most people would think that this two-bit criminal got exactly what he deserved, not everyone feels quite the same way. Rather than hold him accountable, the thug’s family is saying that the homeowner went too far.
Johnson’s cousin Nautika Harris said, “I don’t care if she have her gun license or any of that. That is way beyond the law… way beyond. He was not supposed to die like this. He had a future ahead of him. Trevon had goals… he was a funny guy, very big on education, loved learning.”
This could be disputed as his history indicates (this instance included) that he was not on the right path. However, she later went on to say, “It’s no reason she should have waited until I think he walked out the yard to try to shoot him.” Johnson’s sister Nisha Johnson then quickly interjected, asking, “If she called the police already why would she shoot him?”
However, the worst was about to come. As the duo continued to spew their nonsense, Harris officially threw accountability for the thug’s actions right out the window by saying, “You have to look at it from every child’s point of view that was raised in the hood. You have to understand… how he gonna get his money to have clothes to go to school? You have to look at it from his point-of-view.”
Because this kid didn’t have money for the clothes he wanted, it was his right to steal something from someone else so that he could buy them? Where in the world would someone get off saying such a thing? This, right here, is exactly what is wrong with society and what happens when an entitled mentality is allowed to fester for too long.
I have to admit that she is right about one thing. This shooting was completely unnecessary, but the fault doesn’t fall on the homeowner. A real simple way of avoiding this whole ordeal would have been for Johnson to keep his grubby hands to himself and off of property that didn’t belong to him. If he had done that, he’d still be here today. Consider this thug held accountable.
