There are always a few degenerates who are willing to take advantage of others during times of misfortune. In fact, just that was proven as a few feral thugs decided to loot a Texas store during the chaos caused by Hurricane Harvey. Unfortunately for them, things didn’t exactly turn out as planned — and even they were left horrified see what was waiting for them outside.
There’s no arguing that the flooding in Texas has brought the community and even our country together as times of crisis usually do. Between local law enforcement, first responders, and good Samaritans, it seems that most everyone is working together to accomplish one thing – help as many people as they can.
Fortunately, they’ve been very successful as Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo recently held a press conference to inform the public on the emergency response to Hurricane Harvey’s aftermath. In all, IJ Review reports that those lending a hand have rescued at least 2,000 Houstonians with that number still on the rise.
Although Hurricane Harvey has brought out the good in our society, there is evil as well. In fact, entitled brats across the affected area have proven that by taking advantage of an already bad situation. Seeking only to selfishly benefit themselves as others struggle to help those in need, feral thugs have been seen looting stores for non-essentials.
Take, for instance, the punk named Jamaal Williams who used Twitter to brag about his criminal behavior. Just before deleting his social media account, the moron posted a picture of himself with a friend holding guns, saying they were “lootin sh*t from white neighborhoods.”
Too bad for feral thugs who decided to act like Williams, they got a nasty surprise after deciding to loot a different store. In fact, you can imagine their horror to walk outside and see several police officers waiting to arrest them.
In all, Police Chief Art Acevedo said that four looters had been arrested thus far. However, that number will soon rise as the need for rescue efforts dies down and police are able to refocus their attention on tracking down those who broke the law during this tragedy. Even better yet, the police chief issued a warning to looters both past and present:
“We’ve already arrested a handful of looters. We’ve made it real clear to our community we’re going to do whatever it takes to protect their homes and their businesses. And when people come from the outside to Houston, Texas, know we’re going to be out in the city, we’re not going to rest as a police department or law enforcement community until people restore their lives.” [Source: KTRK]
However, that’s not even the worst of it for feral thugs like this as Fox News reports that Houston is issuing mandatory jail time for anyone caught looting. “Leniency and probation will be off the table for these offenses committed during this time,” Police Chief Art Acevedo lastly concluded.
There is absolutely no excuse for taking things that you didn’t work for, didn’t earn, and don’t deserve. However, that notion becomes exponentially worse when you take advantage of others during a time of need. People should come together as a community during these difficult times, not act like self-serving punks who only care about themselves. After all, there’s some extra motivation here to do the right thing since those who can’t act like civil adults will be locked in a cage like the animals they are.
