President Donald Trump made some big changes that impacted food stamp users. They said that it couldn’t be done, but Trump just proved all of the haters wrong. It has liberals hitting the panic button.
Food stamps or “SNAP” is one of the biggest burdens on taxpaying Americans. It is also one of the most devious schemes hatched by Democrats. SNAP is supposed to just help out a family when the breadwinner loses a job. It’s a temporary “safety net,” so that Americans don’t go hungry. All too often, however, it becomes a crutch. People get on food stamps and never get off.
Food stamps, like Welfare and other government programs, have made millions of Americans dependent on the government. Instead of finding a good-paying job to support their families, they rely on handouts. Sadly, the government never gives them enough — ensuring they stay in poverty.
One of the major goals of the Trump administration is to end this system. His agenda to make America great again includes bringing back good jobs for every able-bodied citizen. That leads to financial independence and prosperity for millions of people, who once couldn’t afford the basics.
It seems like that has been paying off, in a big way. A new report out from the USDA has shown food stamp usage is dropping rapidly. In fact, over half a million Americans got off the program in a single month. That adds up to a drastic decrease in users for the program since Trump took office.
More than half a million people dropped off the food stamp rolls in a single month, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The USDA data reveals that a total of 587,792 people discontinued their participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) between December 2017 and January 2018.

There was an uptick in food stamp usage early fall of 2017, due to hurricane relief. But that only lasted for a month. In the months that followed, there has been a steady decline. The largest drop was at the beginning of 2018, where we saw half a million Americans ditch the program.
This coincides with states and the White House working to get Americans off this toxic program. Food stamps barely provide enough as it is. Statistics prove that 1/3 off all junk food are bought with food stamps (your tax dollars are contributing to the U.S. obesity crisis). When Americans earn their own money to buy food, they make better choices. They can earn far more than what the government can give them.
President Trump mentioned in 2017 that he wanted to make it a priority to keep SNAP program costs down at the state and federal levels, which if implemented, could cause enrollment to decline even more this year as the administration releases its plans to reform the federal welfare system.

Food stamp usage soared during the Barack Obama years. That was by design. Obama entered office during the economic downturn. He used the panic everyone was feeling to rollback basic food stamp requirements. That resulted in a massive increase in enrollment (not to mention contributed to the deficit surge under Obama). Even when things started to improve, Obama did not restore the requirements.
On top of that, Obama frequently talked about lost jobs not coming back. More and more jobs (blue and white collar work) were lost overseas. Less opportunity led to more people on government handouts. Obama needed that in order to push Obamacare and other socialist programs. The Democrats can only thrive when Americans are weak, poor, and dependent on government programs.
Only now are things improving, under President Trump. He proved you can bring jobs back to the United States. Slashing regulations, reducing taxes, and ending bad trade deals can have a remarkable impact on the jobs market. Now, there are over 6 million jobs waiting to be filled. There is no reason so many Americans should be collecting pennies from SNAP to buy food.
States are restoring basic work requirements for food stamps. Able-bodied Americans will have to work part-time, volunteer, or enroll in workforce training to continue receiving SNAP. That has several effects. One, people find work and no longer need food stamps. Two, people who refuse to find even basic work (or get training from the government) naturally drop out of the program. It’s a win-win no matter how you slice it.
President Donald Trump is moving ahead with other initiatives that might end food stamps for good. A recent executive order requires strict accountability from government programs. His Harvest Boxes plan will replace SNAP debit cards with healthy foods provided directly to recipients. All that amounts to a radical curtailing of bloated government programs. Hopefully for good.
