You’d never know it, though, after what Nancy Pelosi decided to do while President Donald Trump remained in Washington, D.C., hoping to negotiate. Apparently, Nancy had better plans.
This is pretty close to a “let them eat cake” moment for the soon-to-be House Speaker. As the government shutdown enters a second week, Democrat Nancy Pelosi is at a swanky resort in Hawaii, rather than trying to hash out a deal to get things up and running again. President Donald Trump, on the other hand, canceled his Christmas plans to work out a deal to reopen the government, but Pelosi’s priority is obviously working on her tan.
Despite the spin from the Democrats, the government is shut down because they refuse to fund even a cent of President Trump’s proposed border wall. Democrats own the shutdown, and they are the only ones who can stop it by voting for a spending bill that includes modest funding for essential border security.
That doesn’t appear like something that’s going to happen any time soon. The Democrats have all left Washington and don’t plan on coming back until next year, so striking a deal is impossible. “They’ve left the table altogether, so of course we are far apart,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, speaking of the Democrats.
Acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney added, “There’s not a single Democrat talking to the President of the United States about this deal.” And, according to The Hill, Trump is available and willing to negotiate:
President Trump will remain in Washington, D.C., over the New Year’s holiday as the White House attempts to negotiate an end to the partial shutdown of the federal government with Democrats in Congress.
“The president’s been here, by the way, all weekend, all Christmas. He’s staying in Washington, D.C., over New Year’s. He’s canceled his plans for Christmas. Now, he’s canceled his plans for New Year’s,” Mulvaney said.
So, what’s Nancy Pelosi doing as hundreds of thousands of government workers are furloughed? The Washington Free Beacon found her, and she’s nowhere near Washington, D.C.
Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi is spending the government shutdown at a luxury resort in Hawaii, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.
Pelosi, who has put blame squarely on President Donald Trump for the current government shutdown, was spotted Thursday vacationing in Hawaii at the Fairmont Orchid resort, where room accommodations range from $899-a-night for a standard room to $4,899-a-night for the presidential suite.
This place sounds way better than getting sent home with no paycheck like most government workers are dealing with.
The resort, on Hawaii’s Big Island, features a golf course, six restaurants, and a 10,000-square-foot oceanfront pool. It also features a “Spa Without Walls,” where the 110-minute Ali’i Royal Experience is available for $369 and a 50-minute couples massage runs $549, according to the spa menu. While at the spa, guests can snack on a gluten-free grilled prawn summer roll for $19.
Pelosi is one of the wealthiest members of Congress with a net worth of between $58.7 million to $72.1 million. She showed just how much of a rich elitist she is when the GOP passed the unilateral tax cuts by referring to the thousands of dollars in savings to working family as “crumbs.”
It must be nice, but it certainly doesn’t make Pelosi appear as if she cares about the lowly commoners she was elected to serve. At least crazy Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono has offered the empty gesture of donating her salary during the shutdown. Meanwhile, Pelosi is flaunting her wealth as others struggle, and that’s as Marie Antoinette as it gets.
