According to memos from the Trump administration, illegal aliens are in for a nasty surprise now that there’s a new sheriff in town. During his campaign, the president promised to rid the United States of costly illegal immigrants who are eating up our resources and wreaking havoc on our communities, and he is swiftly making good on his word.
New guidelines set forth by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly claim, “The surge of immigration at the southern border has overwhelmed federal agencies and resources and has created a significant national security vulnerability to the United States.” In response, federal authorities will now be allowed to aggressively detain and deport illegal aliens.
In a pair of memos, Kelly offered more detail on plans for the agency to hire thousands of additional enforcement agents, expand the pool of immigrants who are prioritized for removal, speed up deportation hearings and enlist local law enforcement to help make arrests.
The new directives would supersede nearly all of those issued under previous administrations, Kelly said, including measures from President Barack Obama aimed at focusing deportations exclusively on hardened criminals and those with terrorist ties. [Source: The Washington Post]
Kelly’s memos are drafts which have not been released publicly and are still under review by the White House Counsel’s Office. However, they are intended to serve as a blueprint for DHS employees to follow. Federal officials are also instructed in the memos to seek all available funding for the border wall.
Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, was sworn in to oversee the Department of Homeland Security just hours after Trump was inaugurated on January 20. His memos are copied to officials at Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. A DHS spokeswoman declined to comment on the documents. However, she did not dispute their authenticity.
This is in stark contrast to the Obama administration, which not only welcomed illegal immigrants with open arms but offered them every incentive to stay in the United States. No doubt, we will begin to reap the benefits of Trump’s and Kelly’s stern immigration policies in short order. This is just one rung on the long ladder to making America great again.
