After Threat From Trump, Mexico Takes Extreme Measures To Hinder Migrant Caravan

With 4,000 migrants headed for the U.S. border, President Donald Trump has issued a blistering threat to countries that are doing nothing to halt the caravan. Mexico has now responded by taking extreme measures to hinder the migrants as they continue their approach toward the U.S. border.

Thousands of Honduran migrants are headed for the United States border, just days after Vice President Mike Pence sat down with the country’s leader, urging him to take a tougher stance on mass migration. At least 1,300 people, including young children, left San Pedro Sula in northern Honduras on Saturday, in what some are calling the “March of the Migrant.” Now, the count has reached 4,000.

“Hard to believe that with thousands of people from South of the Border, walking unimpeded toward our country in the form of large Caravans, that the Democrats won’t approve legislation that will allow laws for the protection of our country. Great Midterm issue for Republicans!” President Trump tweeted on Wednesday.

“Republicans must make the horrendous, weak and outdated immigration laws, and the Border, a part of the Midterms!” Trump added.

The president warned that he will use military force to seal the US-Mexico border unless Mexico intervenes:

“I am watching the Democrat Party led (because they want Open Borders and existing weak laws) assault on our country by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders are doing little to stop this large flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS, from entering Mexico to U.S.” Trump tweeted.

“In addition to stopping all payments to these countries, which seem to have almost no control over their population, I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught – and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!” the president threatened.

“The assault on our country at our Southern Border, including the Criminal elements and DRUGS pouring in, is far more important to me, as President, than Trade or the USMCA. Hopefully Mexico will stop this onslaught at their Northern Border. All Democrats fault for weak laws!” Trump tweeted.

Mexico has responded by dispatching two Boeing 727s full of federal police officers to its southern border, as the country prepares for the arrival of the migrant caravan:

The government of Mexico dispatched two 727 Boeing planes filled with federal police officers to its southern border with Guatemala on Wednesday to intercept a caravan of Central American migrants who are trying to reach the U.S. border.

The Interior and Foreign Relations ministries said in a joint statement that any migrant in the caravan without proper immigration papers would be arrested and “returned to their country of origin.” Those with proper documents or wishing to apply for asylum would be allowed to enter Mexico.

Trump has already threatened to cut off all aid to Honduras, leaving government officials begging the migrants to turn around and come home. However, the caravan has only increased in size.

This caravan will be stopped, come hell or high water. If Mexico is unsuccessful, you can bet that the U.S. military will be. As the president noted, it is imperative that we send a message to these undocumented immigrants: The United States of America is a sovereign nation and our borders will be respected.
