As January 20th draws near, more performers are being announced daily for President-elect Donald Trump’s historic inauguration, and the latest is ruffling more than a few feathers. It’s sad, really, considering the magnitude of such an event, and the fact that there has seemingly never been such controversy surrounding it. We’re seeing who’s truly tolerant, and it’s not the party which notoriously prides themselves on inclusivity.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced on Friday that the Talladega College Marching Tornadoes, the marching band of Alabama’s oldest private, historically black liberal arts college, had accepted a highly-coveted invitation to perform. They are among only 40 groups from around the country, including high school bands and military organizations, scheduled to perform in Donald Trump’s inaugural parade.

According to MailOnline, the move has lit up Talladega College’s social media sites with a sharp debate about the band’s decision to participate. They released a positive statement on their Facebook page, informing the public they were chosen for the parade, but the post was met with very mixed responses. Other historically black schools like Howard University, which marched in President Barack Obama’s first inaugural parade, said they didn’t apply to march at Trump’s inauguration.

Right Wing News reports that Donald Trump has repeatedly reached out to the black community, proving the allegations that he is a racist are nothing but media-manufactured bologna. During a rally in Michigan, he said, “Look how much African American communities have suffered under Democratic control. To those, I say the following: What do you have to lose?” Indeed.

An invitation to perform at any presidential inauguration is an immense honor. One could even argue that the opportunity to be one of the select groups who will entertain this year is even more monumental. Here’s why: Donald Trump was grossly underestimated by the mainstream media and political pundits, who scoffed at the idea of someone who has never been a politician being elected to the highest office in the country. Then he made history, surprising them all. His will be an inauguration for the ages.
