Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump is at it again. He’s ruffling the feathers of not only the political elite, but those leaning left as well. His most recent comments on Barack Obama’s executive action attempting to restrict our gun rights, though, is propelling him even higher in the polls.
Trump doubled down on his pro-gun stance on Saturday at a jam-packed campaign rally in Biloxi, Mississippi. As we all know, Barack Obama is currently conspiring with his tyrants in the White House to attempt to limit and restrict our freedom and right to own guns. Trump blasted the current president over his rhetoric and vowed to “unsign” any executive orders Obama comes up with on guns.
“There’s an assault on the Second Amendment. You know Obama’s going to do an executive order and really knock the hell out of it,” Trump said. “You know, the system’s supposed to be you get the Democrats, you get the Republicans, and you make deals. He can’t do that. He can’t do that. So he’s going to sign another executive order having to do with the Second Amendment, having to do with guns. I will veto. I will unsign that so fast.”
Obama’s executive order is expected to change the way background checks are conducted or, at bare minimum, expand them, while simultaneously and probably intentionally limiting gun sales. He is meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss options for tougher gun restrictions on Monday. Trump made sure he took a hard-line stance in firm support of gun rights in an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation.
“I don’t like it,” Trump said to John Dickerson in the interview. “I don’t like anything having to do with changing our Second Amendment. We have plenty of rules and regulations. It’s plenty of things they can do right now that are already there. They don’t do them. We have a tremendous mental health problem,” Trump continued. “We are closing places all over the world, all over the country they are closing, but they are closing all over the world.”
He added, “All they want to do is blame the guns. And it is not the gun that pulls the trigger.”
Trump’s vows will surely win over the hearts of gun-toting Americans. What a breath of fresh air it would be if our freedom was not constantly under attack from the Obama administration. Trump’s words are salt to an already gaping wound in Obama, since he’s already suffering from his inability to convince even his Democrats that more gun laws would be beneficial.
It’s difficult to stop listening to the real estate mogul, whether you agree with him or not. His “take charge” attitude and “speak your mind” tirades are often fuel for his enemies, yet it always seems to make him a hero. He’s like teflon — nothing sticks, and that’s a good thing for a presidential candidate.
