After a disgusted McDonald’s employee refused to serve a cop in Palm Bay, Florida, the officer immediately turned to social media to share what had happened. As soon as McDonald’s heard about the incident, they uttered one shocking word in response.
It all began when Lt. Tim Lancaster from the Palm Bay Police Department decided to take a swing through the McDonald’s drive-thru for lunch. Although he’s not one to complain, what happened during the quick visit compelled him to immediately turn to Facebook to share the infuriating chain of events.
“Completely shocked and disappointed. I have been working in law enforcement for over 20 years and never thought I would personally experience what just occurred at the drive-thru at the McDonald’s at Palm Bay Road and Babcock Street,” Lancaster began in his Facebook post.
“I ordered my lunch, paid at the first window and moved up to the second window to pick up lunch,” he continued. What happened at the second window is exactly what left him infuriated. “When I got to the window, the clerk looked at me with my drink in (her) hand and stopped. For the record, I am in full uniform and an unmarked car. She handed my drink to another clerk and walked away in disgust.”

The entitled employee was disgusted by the mere sight of a cop. Instead of keeping their personal feelings to themselves while on the job, this particular person thought the best course of action was to be disrespectful and to refuse to serve the officer.
Of course, Lancaster was humiliated. “I asked the other clerk what was wrong,” he recalled, and he was told that “the other clerk refuses to serve cops.” He added, “I was embarrassed and upset. After a while, I called the store and spoke to Omar, he identified himself as the general manager, and said he would address it.” Lt. Tim Lancaster then declared, “I will never eat at McDonald’s again. Never been treated like that before.”
The post has gone viral, being shared over 7,000 times and counting, and McDonald’s corporate office has even caught wind of the incident. They immediately spoke out about it with one shocking word standing out in their response: “Unacceptable.”
“We have respect for all first responders and are investigating,” said Carolina Rodriguez, a spokesperson for McDonald’s, in a statement on Sunday, according to Florida Today. “The behavior described in this Facebook post is unacceptable and not tolerated in our restaurants.”
Of course, it currently hasn’t been released whether the employee has been terminated or not, but Lt. Lancaster is confident that they’ll do what is necessary. “I think they’ll handle it appropriately,” Lancaster stated, according to Blue Lives Matter. “I was shocked, that’s a good word. I never thought I’d be at a point in my career when I’d see something like this.”
Since the post, Lancaster and other officers have seen “overwhelming support.” Most people understand that police officers deserve respect for what they do and should never be treated how Lancaster and other cops have been treated by certain members of the public.
There is absolutely no excuse for this employee’s behavior. There is nothing wrong with having an opinion of your own, but when you work in customer service, you need to be able to keep your own personal feelings at bay. The fact that the officer’s mere presence “disgusted” this individual is infuriating.
Police officers should be given nothing but respect, considering the fact that they put their lives on the line for strangers every single day. I wonder what this employee would think if he or she was in trouble and a police officer refused to work — I have a feeling their tune would change real quick if it were them who needed the police officer to “do his job” and protect them.
