Minneapolis Councilwoman: Calling Cops For Help Is ‘Privilege,’ Gets Smackdown

The Minneapolis city council has voted to defund their police department, and Councilwoman Lisa Bender claimed on Monday that a “police-free future” in America is the right move because “calling the police for help is privilege.” Well, that’s when she got a brutal smackdown she never saw coming. You’ll love this.

Monday on CNN’s “New Day,” Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender defended her council’s attempt to disband the Minneapolis police department following the death of George Floyd.

“I think in Minneapolis, watching George Floyd’s death, and the actions of the four police officers that were involved has been a huge wake-up call for so many in Minneapolis to see what many already knew, which is that our police department is not keeping every member of our community safe,” Bender said.

Bender dismisses “reforms” and claims getting rid of the police department is the only way forward.

“Our reform efforts have failed, and we have done many, many attempts at reform and new leadership in the department and many things, and we still see this tragic death,” Bender added. “And so I think the wake-up of our community is what’s driving the city council’s announcement yesterday. And now the hard work begins for us to rebuild systems that really work to keep all of our communities safe.”

“But to be clear, you’re not talking about reform,” CNN’s Alisyn Camerota said. “The word dismantle is intentionally different than reform. This is more than reform. This is dismantling. I mean, activists who support this are calling this a police-free future.”

“For a lot of folks in our community, stable housing is a safety issue,” Bender said. “Having access to health care is a safety issue. So, having, you know, I think one thing folks are asking is to stop investing so much money in this militarized police force and instead invest in the things that our community really needs.”

So, Bender is all for taking the money away from the police department and giving it to the leftwing activists to fix the ghettos.

The Democrats have had over 50 years in our inner cities with their social welfare programs, and that has been a disaster. But Lisa Bender wasn’t finished making her point.

“What if, in the middle of the night, my home is broken into? Who do I call?” the CNN host asked.

“Yes, I mean, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors, and myself, too, and I know that that comes from a place of privilege,” Bender said. “Because for those of us for whom the system is working, I think we need to step back and imagine what it would feel like to already live in that reality where calling the police may mean more harm is done.”

“This is insane,” tweeted Dan Bongino about the video of the Minneapolis council president.

Dan Bongino wasn’t the only American giving Bender and her ideas a brutal smackdown.

“Being safe is privilege??? And this is why there is a 2nd Amendment. To protect us from insane elected officials and mob rule,” tweeted “What If.”

“No, it’s NOT a privilege! It’s a service contracted & bought through our tax monies! You allowed bad union contracts protecting bad cops and teachers to stay on the job!” tweeted Lynne Burke.

“Never in my life have I heard such braindead drivel. Especially not someone elected to a position authority. Minneapolis and Minnesota in general have chosen stupidly and are reaping the rewards of their ignorance,” tweeted “What Constitution.”

“@lisabendermpls MORON: Definition of moron 1: a very stupid person They were acting like a bunch of morons,” tweeted “Swamp Fox 17.”

“MEMO TO: Minneapolis City Council President @lisabendermpls: So I get the ‘privilege ‘ of shooting any a**hole breaking into my house?” tweeted “The Head Jerk.”

“Dear Minneapolis: Good luck to you. You’ll need it, after your leaders viciously attack good men & women of the police who protect you. Stop asking all hard-working Americans for bailouts, after you elect anti-cop, P.C., liberal D #WokeJokes like this,” tweeted Mike Davis.

Minneapolis City Council members announced Sunday during a rally at Powderhorn Park that they are planning to disband the police department.

City Council members said they will invest in community-led safety initiatives instead of the police department.

“Our commitment is to end our city’s toxic relationship with the Minneapolis Police Department, to end policing as we know it, and to re-create systems of public safety that actually keep us safe,” Lisa Bender said at Sunday’s community meeting.

Meanwhile, Democrats like Kamala Harris are also backing getting rid of America’s police forces and using the money to help “the people who need it.” God help those Americans who live in these Democrat-run cities. The rioting and looting we have seen over the last week will look like child’s play as the inner cities are on their own to defend themselves from thugs and criminals.
